He also served as the Chief Operating Officer of Nextel Communications, Inc. from January 1996 to July 1999. He started his career with AT&T Wireless Services in 1986, as President for McCaw Cellular's paging division and Since 1989, he served as McCaw Cellular's President for the US central region. He served various senior management positions with AT&T Wireless Services Inc., from 1986 to January 1996, including Regional President for the northeast from 1991 to 1996. He served as the Chairman of NII Holdings Inc., from 1999 to 2001. Mr. Donahue served as the Executive Chairman of Sprint Corp. from August 2005 to 2006. He served as Chairman of Sprint Corp. PCS Group. He was employed by SpectraSite, Inc. He has been an Independent Director of NVR Inc., since January 1, 2006. He serves as a Director of Mallinckrodt LLC. He served as a Director of Sprint Corp. FON Group since August 2005. He served as a Director of Eastman Kodak Company from October 2001 to September 3, 2013. He served as a Director of Covidien PLC from June 29, 2007 to March 20, 2013 and its Lead Director from October 2008 to March 20, 2013. Mr. Donahue served as an Independent Director of Tyco International Ltd. from March 13, 2008 to September 28, 2012 and Director of Nextel Partners Inc. from January 1999 to July 2005. He served as a Director of NII Holdings Inc. from November 12, 2002 to March 10, 2004 and previously served as its Director from 1997 to April 22, 2002. He served as a Director of Nextel Communications Inc., since June 1996 and Sprint Corp. since August 2005. He served as an Independent Director of The ADT Corporation since September 14, 2012 until May 2, 2016. He serves on the Board of John Carroll University. Mr. Donahue serves as Chairman of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA). His mantra of Be first, Be better, Be different has helped position Nextel as an award-winning industry leader. He was named by BusinessWeek as 'One of the Best Managers in 2002. Institutional Investor Magazine honored him as the best Chief Executive Officer in the telecom services & wireless sector based on ratings by Investors and brokerage firm Analysts. Additionally, Forbes Magazine rated Mr. Donahue as one of America's leading Chief Executive Officer's with an approval rating of 87 percent. He is a graduate of John Carroll University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
