Executive Bio

Ms. Kate Phillips serves as Online Politics Editor at The New York Times Company and served as its Washington Editor since October 15, 2004. Ms. Phillips was Deputy Editor for the Op-Ed Page of The New York Times. She joined The Times as an editor at the Metropolitan desk in 1995, after working as city editor at New York Newsday. Before joining New York Newsday in 1989, she worked for the Times-Union in Rochester and The News Press in Fort Myers, Fla. At The New York Times, Ms. Phillips has served as New York political editor and an editor in the Washington Bureau and at the National desk. She has helped direct coverage on a wide variety of issues, including domestic policy, politics and health care. She was a Nieman fellow at Harvard University in 2002-3.
