How employees describe working at The Salvation Army

They are all super sweet and kind

In terms of diversity and training it is not regulated properly. The CEO is hands off, so that leaves the doors open for middle management to run the facility the way they choose. That includes right or wrong and no regulation is involved. Hands off approach decreases oversight in daily structure.

I only had 2 other coworkers that I enjoyed working with. They were the only ones that would do their jobs.

Very comfortable less stress then u think

The people there are very nice. The store is very clean

  • It takes about an hour. Then they decide then if the manger thinks your a good fit she/he will hire you.

  • I cannot answer that one because that manager that interviewed me is not the same one that is in charge now

  • It depends on which job you apply for. If it’s an entry level it’s fair simple. Just be yourself. But if it’s a higher leveled position, expect to go through 2-3 interviews in total. Some interviews may require test projects or assignments.

  • Our CEO is amazing I don't think there's any improves.

  • The CEO of The Salvation Army is the world-wide general. He is held in high esteem by almost all workers, volunteers, employees, officers, etc. The CEO of The Salvation Army is extremely dedicated and lives a very sacrificial life as General of The Salvation Army. They support the lower level mission of territories, divisions, etc. and are excellent about keeping a big picture view of what the organization needs. I have no suggestions for improvement. It would be presumptuous of me to think I could offer any areas of improvement being so very far removed from that level of responsibility and demands upon them.

  • In our store the CEO is never mentioned because when you call to the main office in Flint they always give you the run-around so higher up people do not hear what is truly going on

  • Everyone is pretty cool

  • Busy, active, hustle-bustle. Joyful, filled with laughter, prayerful (you will often see people praying with one another or hear people asking for prayer), extremely diverse (you will see people of all backgrounds, ages, and cultures working together: gay, straight, deeply religious, people with no religious beliefs to speak of, black, white, Christian, Jew, Muslim, men and women, old and young, you name it)

  • Not good at all a person is never called in to be told what a good job they are doing we only hear Bad Things even if we are hard workers everyday we are not told how good we are there was a time caught the middle manager calling us the f word and the b word but as I talk to her one day she did stop doing that the only time we are talk to write is when they know someone's coming in from the main office in Flint

  • Varies by location and commanding officer.

  • Very badly when I tried to go to mr. Doug which is the person that goes around checking this all the Salvation Army stores around our area about some very bad issues that we're going on at the store in Saginaw he told me take it up with my manager but instead of him using his mind and saying well if she has to come to me with a problem it must be that she can't get it solved with her manager and I had gone to him numerous of times to get something done he told me he had no time for that

  • It really depends on the location. They have very strict HR policies that are supposed to protect them and the employee. There are still times where bad HR and managers get away with stuff.

  • I like the culture the way it is.

  • Improve the work-life balance. Many officers' health is terrible. Most officer die before they should due to weight and health issues from working themselves into early graves. Many officers have children who have social issues, failed marriages, and other problems from where their parents were expected to bring them along to the workplace and work from home with them for far too many hours. It is not a good work-life balance and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

  • We are not allowed that neither if we come up with a good idea or something that will make the work faster and easier they will not listen Sylvia is very jealous if someone has better ideas than her she is a very bad head manager and I can't express this enough that someone truly needs to go in there without the head people in Flint and the managers knowing because they cover for each other and if they know someone is coming to check the store over the secretaries at the head office in Flint call the managers at the store in Saginaw Michigan
