The leadership should stop copying what other companies are doing and chart their own course. Leadership should also respect employee choices like wishing for remote work and stop bullying employees into coming to work by threatening them. Leadership should stop lying and giving deceitful messaging.
Engineering still has a culture of trust and innovation, but is under threat from the negative effects of RTO mandates and other bad decisions from leadership. There is a palpable sense that we are losing our great culture. Without that culture, Appian will at best be mediocre.
Since 2022, there was an abrupt shift in how Appian treats its employees. The RTO mandate and the talent snapshot process proved that Appian now sees employees as cogs in a machine, and mere numbers. This built resentment in many people, among both ICs and managers, and reinforces a bad culture.
I know for a fact I have been underpaid by at least 20% for a long time. I accepted this when I felt respected and valued by the company in other ways. Since 2022 and the RTO mandates, that is no longer the case. If you want me to be OK with being significantly underpaid, give me other perks.
