Out of 124 Motherly employee reviews, 83% were positive. The remaining 17% were constructive reviews with the goal of helping Motherly improve their work culture. The Marketing team, with 85% positive reviews, reports the best experience at Motherly compared to all other departments at the company.
The executive team is very considerate and have extensive industry knowledge.
The leadership team works really collaboratively together is respectful to each other's separate departments. They are also aligned on the company's goals and mission which is not always the case at a startup.
Problem solvers who think big and find ways to make amazing things happen
The Motherly leadership team is absolutely best in class. They are smart, confident and decisive. Even in the face of tough challenges, they are tenacious and bold.
Their commitment to transparency in all aspects of the organization

Most leadership is out of touch with their workforce and they could practice more empathy and understanding.
Need clearer direction, less fire drills, more support.
Treating their employees with respect - in the sense ideals portrayed outwardly by the company need to be practiced internally as well.
Treating their employees with dignity & respect. The success of Motherly is built off the hard work of the employees. Practice what you preach to your audience.
There seems to be no interest in investing in current team members as the company evolves. There is no direct path of career development in the company and no opportunities for training or leveling up. The minute KPIs aren't met the threat of being replaced surfaces.

I am well paid especislly for a fully remote company.
I love the unlimited PTO as well as the fully remote status of the business. Motherly has always been remote which allows me to save money on childcare by not having a commute to the office.
Remote work is the biggest perk
They paid me every two weeks. PTO is a joke because there is no time to take it and you aren't compensated for it on the way out. They'll kick you out with the bare minimum for severance no matter how hard you work.
Motherly is incredibly in tune with the needs of today's working women. Leadership is strong in their mentoring of women to advocate for themselves and they also plan critical support benefits with the needs of todays mothers in mind. PTO, mat leave and flexible working solutions are the best
Appreciation for hard work is rare at Motherly. Get it when you can but don't expect it. Pay is okay. Benefits are horrible, especially considering it's a company geared towards mothers.
Simply recognizing the hard work and effort put forth on a daily basis would be a good start.
The pay is not competitive to the market—especially as it pertains to the oppressive expectations and unrealistic

Bringing up salaries to competitive market rates
My team is always willing to help solve a problem or troubleshoot to make sure the ships run on time and the company is able to reach its goals.
Incredibly hard-working, smart, focused on the collective corporate goals
Everyone's shared commitment to the mission of empowering and helping mothers.
Hard working & dedicated teammates
Committed. Dedicated. Empathetic and supportive
Less meetings. Less fire drills, more time to focus on actual work instead of reacting to the dozens of sudden requests from management.
There are many in the company that I do not trust.
The environment is very supportive of mothers which makes a huge difference for my and my family.
I believe the steadiness and reliability of communication. Motherly is a startup so the priorities can shift often, but they are always aligned to our yearly goals and are reexamined quarterly as a business.
Mid-level team members have each other's backs and there was a fair amount of creativity when we had time.
There is ZERO culture at Motherly. Culture is huge. Without it, your employees have no sense of belonging to the company and nothing to help motivate them/feel connected to their colleagues. Getting a culture in place should be a priority.
The competency & dedication of the team was really impressive - so much hard work went in during a really tough pandemic year.
Top down leadership needs serious improvement. Treat people with respect. Lose the condescension and recognize the employees & relationships with partners will make or break the success of the company. Without them you have nothing.
KPIs need to be aligned with the resources available. If resources change, the KPIs need to adjust to reflect that in a realistic way, not an optimistic way. The prioritization needs to be crystal clear and the whiplash of moving from one project to another needs to be slowed down.

Over the last several months we have seen some drastic changes on the teams and seeing people reap the benefits of behavior that isn't really Motherly. The exec team is aware and does nothing
I liked getting to talk to lots of cross functional managers.
I liked getting to ask very honest questions about the company and its culture during my interview process.
It was quick and painless, to the point.
The interview process was standard. The onboarding process after hire was substandard and with it being a fully remote team, they really need to create a process that is more seamless and less like feeling like you're being plunged into the deep end of the pool.
Review from Marketing Dept
The interview process was simple and transparent. I was never left guessing about how much more there was in the process or how they were feeling about me as a candidate.

I love working with my team.
I love working for a company that has such a great name in the market.
Meeting with dedicated, creative minds who want to do good and make an impact
The projects I work on are all tied to the growth of the business which is exciting. My manager is also empowering, empathetic, and super smart. I learn from her daily.

Working to accomplish a goal as a team.

Less meetings and micromanagement of projects. Trust your workforce to get their work done successfully.
Ridiculous amount of work for the # of people involved. Leadership preaches work / life balance and no one seems to have it because of the KPIs / demands of their jobs. Unlimited PTO! Except there's no time to take it because if you get behind, the CEO will sack you. Great way to live.
The ambition of the founders is apparent, but they are divorced from the reality in what it requires to actually get the job done - especially in regards to time frame. Very often large initiatives will be brought up with a very short turnaround (e.g. the homepage redesign).
