Dr. Robert L. Barchi, also known as Bob, M.D., Ph.D. serves as President of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Dr. Barchi served as the President of Thomas Jefferson University since September 2004 until 2012. Dr. Barchi has extensive experience in the management of complex institutions and in medical research and pharmaceutical development. He served as Provost and chief academic officer of the University of Pennsylvania, having served in various capacities for more than 30 years. He founded and served as the President of Penn Neurocare. He served as the Chair of Penn's Department of Neurology and as founding Chair of the University's Department of Neuroscience. He served as Vice Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of BioAdvance. He has been a Director at Covance Inc. since October 1, 2003 and VWR Funding, Inc. since September 2007. He has been Ex-Officio Director of University Hospital since July 2013. He has been a Director at VWR International Inc., since September 2007. Dr. Barchi serves as a Trustee of Ursinus College. He served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at TransMolecular, Inc. He served as Director of VWR International Inc from May 17, 2006 to June 2007. He served as an Independent Director of VWR Corporation since 2006 until November 21, 2017. He served as a Director of the Mahoney Institute of Neurological Sciences for more than 12 years. Previously, he served as a Director of VWR Funding, Inc. from May 2006 to June 2007 by affiliates of Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC. He served as a Director of the Dana Fellowship Program in Neuroscience and of Clinical Neuroscience Track. He is the author of more than 150 publications in his fields of neurology and neuroscience. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and has received numerous awards for his outstanding work in the sciences. In addition to his clinical and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Barchi has published extensively in the field of ion channel research. He received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Georgetown University, as well as Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
