There's a lot of talk about teamwork, but no actual evidence GM & AGM understand the definition of "team," much less how to build, cultivate, and motivate a team. We're expected to cover multiple positions (and create magic) without proper compensation. Insulting & unreasonable.
What makes you most happy at work?
Making someone smile/laugh during an interaction with me. I genuinely enjoy being given the tools to provide a service for someone, meet their needs/provide a suitable alternative, and have them leave feeling enriched bc of interacting with me.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Being CLEAR about the role of each team member/department, hiring and training COMPETENT staff and holding each team member to the same standard. Eliminate favoritism and the expectation that underpaid staff will take on managerial duties without much more than the promise of free takeout for lunch.
