How employees describe working at ADP
I always say I'm a "lifer" I have been here for 18 years and I don't plan to leave.
Review from Client Services Dept
I love this company, by far the best I've ever worked for. My only complaint with ADP is our strict 3x2 hybrid model. For many of our roles, working from home is more efficient, productive and allows for better work/life balance. However, the executive leadership doesn't seem to understand this.
Nothing like it! I love the experience I have had at ADP so far and hope to continue to have more!

Yes
What do employees at ADP think about their benefits?
They should feel great about them. Employees have mixed feelings.
dental and vision plans are very good. when ADP switched to a CDHP medical plan they put the premium on other plans to be almost too high for a family. As for the stock purchase plan. I used to sing its praises, but now it is merely ok.... unless you are a senior exec.
Benefits are great at ADP.
What's the work from home policy like at ADP?
For me, I do not have access to work at home. On the other hand there is some who do telecommuting and according to them it seems to me something good. because you can reconcile both your professional and personal life
Very flexible - probably depends on teams though
As long as you’re in good standing (both officially and unofficially) with management they are pretty lenient with letting you work from home as needed. Of course, you also have to show that you’re productive working from home. However, the concept of permanently working from home is something that is being phased out, from my understanding at least.
What does the ideal candidate in the Customer Support department look like at ADP?
Strong integrity, good work ethic, and very dedicated.
A client that need to get their employees paid on time.
Someone who is smart, friendly, organized, and able to handle a neverending and overwhelming amount of stress.
What's the pay like for Customer Support roles at ADP?
It varies greatly depending on region and product
Too low and employees are disgruntled.
Without the overtime it’s not very good. Sad we have to work like slaves and put in so much extra time to get a decent wage.
What's the vibe like in the Customer Support dept at ADP? How many hours are you working?
A minimum of 50 hours a week and still not getting all of our work done. They just keep adding more and more work to our day. Closing office, laying people off, hiring new people in main big office locations who have no idea what they are doing and take years to train the basics to. It’s bad business all around. Everyone is beat down and exhausted walking on egg shells wondering the the ball will drop and it will be our time to go. It’s truly an unhealthy environment and I question why I stay here.
Very dreary and down environment. Everyone is cranky and stressed from being overworked. This time cof year I average 55-60 hours a week. None Year End I average 47-50 hours a week. And they keep pilin on responsibility and work for us. Everyone just complains all day long, upper management is not around and make is very obvious to us they don’t care
This is an extremely broad question, so I will list the accronyms for the dept. I was in. In MAS-CS(PR)-UM things are very drab. Employees are being delegated more work than they can handle. Everyone feels overworked and overwhelmed, not many people would consider themselves happy, many people claim depression due to this job. The immediate management team is fantastic and the other associates are great; it's the executive team that's making it very hard on these employees. It's virtually impossible, and I mean that in a very literal fashion, to keep up with all of your work in only 8 hours. Most people average 8-10 hours a day. This is out of necessity, not because they're ambitious and want extra hours. If it weren't for the family like atmosphere over there (common suffering creates commradism), this would be a miserable position, in my opinion. I don't know of anywhere else in ADP that is this bad though. This department appears to be an outlier.
How's the leadership on the Customer Support team at ADP?
A joke!!!! They don’t care about their employees on a personal level at all. Very corporate and by the book. Everything is about the bottom line. Their is no team feeling or comrotaey. They only care that you are chained to your desk all day working none stop. Super micro managers. ADP corporate makes our daily work lives more complicated on a daily basis that is not needed at all
Delusional abs out of touch with the in and out of the daily functions of the job
They work in theory while the rest of us work and live in reality. Huge disconnect between the associates who actually to the work and those who make the descisiond abd “think” they know what our job entails
What's the office layout like at ADP?
openspace confortable
Segregated. Very little to no interaction between Departmebts and offices. Who has time when you sit at your desk for 10 hours a day and barely have time to walk 20 feet to get a cup of coffee or hest up your lunch
Cubicals.
How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at ADP?
it is easy to maintain a social life because ADP encourage people to maintain this activities
It’s challenging. Can never make plans after work or if you do you make sure they know it’s tentative and you may cancel because you never know what time you will finish working for the day. Also pretty common to put in a few hours on the weekend as well and that needs to be balanced off our personal family time.
It was difficult for me because I wanted the overtime income.
How's the leadership on the Operations team at ADP?
Leadership is about politics. There are two main surveys that determine the fate of a leader - leader compass and associate engagement. So leaders focus on ways to get high scores from their direct reports and the employees that roll up through them. The company can be on a downward spiral and instead of fixing the problem, leaders are focused on their scores. There are teams that are performing terribly but if the people in the business unit love their leaders, it doesn't matter to ADP. The opposite is also true, truly great leaders get let go because they drive meaningful change but don't win the popular vote from their employees (many of which are low performing).
Strong but very political. They refer to people beneath them as "associates" which further creates a sense of hierarchy.
Horrible recently. Changing due to VERP and new manager style is stand-off
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining ADP?
How poorly it was doing in the market.
That it would take at least two years before you became productive as an employee.
I’d wish I knew that it’s a dev driven company. Regardless of research and experience, the “what” gets built is decided upon by a select few -none of which is in Product Management. The company philosophy is to build, release and see what works. Resulting in expensive releases, slow market response and ineffective product managers. ADP doesn’t value market research, identified market problems or market feedback. Stay away if you are a Product managemebt professional. Product Management is a turnstile of SVPs, VPs and Directors for a reason, they don’t allow you to do your job.
What's the best part of your job at ADP?
Having the ability to make changes. I was a VP so I had a lot of authority.
I get a pay check that helps me live my life. Working for hone twice a week is nice as well
Great opportunity for advancement
How's the work pace at ADP?
Faster then we can keep up with.
Fast and very stressful.
Always fast paced!
What interview questions does ADP ask?
Situation, Action, Result based.
They ask about your work experience, situational problem solving questions, also what will you bring to adp.
Relates previous experience to job interests and what you are looking for future growth
What are you most excited about working at ADP?
Learning and career growth
ADP has an amazing work-life balance. You can come into work every day and make a difference, yet still go home and enjoy life.
Love my boss he is all about his associates and love my work family
What part of ADP's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
HR is growing the fastest, Marketing is having the most difficulties.
AVS/PSM is thriving ...funding for payrolls has never been more automated difficulties : understanding a client service representative language barrier and acents and the complete lack of training and identifying client needs
Comprehensive Outsourcing, Data Cloud and HCM are growing the fastest. The Majors segment is the sweet-spot for ADP. That said all segments (Small business, Majors, Nationals are struggling to meet/match revenue influx from the Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590) compliance offerings.
How's the work life balance at ADP?
Work-life balance can be plus or minus 100% depending on where you work and who you work for. In some areas and roles it's excellent, in others, you'll get no flexibility and like it or leave.
The commitment to the job and the progress and growth and the commitment to work life makes me love my job
The work life balance depends on the Business Unit and the role. Generally folks work a 8-5 or 8:30-6pm day, each day.
How does ADP make decisions around promotions?
Advancement at ADP is based on who you know and who likes you, nothing more and nothing less. Doing your job well means very little. Being a good order taker, shaking the right hand and smiling in the right person's face, goes much further. Expect to be thwarted at every turn or even let go if you are not liked by the right people above you, even if you're at the top of your field and a high performer. There are "reduction in force" (RIF) events yearly where roles are "eliminated" due to "budget constraints." During these RIF times, good people who have not done the "right" things for the "right" people or made the "right" connections are suddenly gone, without their performance or contributions ever coming into play. So, learn to be a politician before you apply.
As you can imagine with any large firm the answer is it varies. Brand perception is BIG. What you are known for in the company likely counts for more then you actually do. Its a heavy top down matrix org. If the Sr leaders know you and have formed a positive opinion then you will get promoted. The Focal Point review and pay for performance programs are 'fake doors' and even if you do well on a review it rarely if ever comes into play when there is a promotion. Promotions are based on 360 reviews and perception and not on your achievements against your goals.
Sometimes based on favoritism and not job qualifications or experience
Does ADP have any remote positions?
For some employees. I worked remotely in overtime case work and training.
Yes, but it's wholly dependent on the type of role. In that respect, it's not possible to answer this question with anything but "it depends." Most roles that are or can support remote are posted as such on the careers board.
Yes. There is a culture that supports "homeshoring". The roles vary by Business Unit and country but its a growing trend for the company.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved at ADP?
Manager be in less netting and more able to help more hands on with the team
The pressure to meet numbers
Need to responding to our shortcomings more quickly
How hard is it to get promoted at ADP?
Not hard if you work hard and show your commitment.
hard
What kind of people does ADP like to hire?
I am not sure, but lately I have noticed that ADP Comprehensive Services wants to hire people at the ADP locations where they can get them to take a pay cut. As an internal that is affecting me, since I can't move within my own organization.
Young self starters
