What's the interview process like at Big Lots?
The interview is short and easy. Pretty much everyone who I see interviewed is hired. We are short staffed, especially with the pandemic, and people don’t always stay long, especially younger kids. But I believe if the interview process was more extensive or stricter, we would have more dedicated employees who actually know what they’re doing or try to learn at least.
Interviewing is the same everywhere it take like 3 weeks to get things moving along

What part of Big Lots's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
I believe what we sell is expanding greatly. After our remodel a couple years ago we got rid of various departments. Right now they seem to be bringing all that back along with more that I haven’t seen here before.
Why is it that this company does not have true diversity programs except for women, by looking at the leadership it's all white males
My area is actually mostly white, so that’s why we don’t have much diversity in our staff.
What's the internship program like at Big Lots?
We don’t have an internship at my store and I’ve never actually heard of one. Maybe it’s at the corporate level?
What is the dress code at Big Lots?
The manual states closed toed shoes, for safety I assume, the company top, and (black or blue) slacks or jeans. They used to tell us a black tshirt is fine, but I’m not sure if it’s still allowed after getting the polo shirts. My store isn’t very strict on bottoms, some even wearing inconspicuous black stretchy sweatpants or shorts if they’re guys. I’ve worn different colored pants as well. Makeup and hair isn’t restricted either, even dressing up for holidays. It probably depends on your managers though.

Why are the employees only getting 4 weeks of severance pay instead 12 weeks like the second wave of closings did. For those who have been there for years, is this really fair??

I work in Cortland Big lots Store (01794) we have not had use a rest room in 10 days because the toilets are backing up. My manager has gone through the proper chanel to get this repair. Hope someone can help this done
