Listening to others. The work culture can be downright toxic at times, but manageable when there's a powerful person in the room. Most negative events happen when higher-ups aren't looking.

Honestly, I think my salary at Discord is quite competitive. The other benefits like health insurance are up to par for silicon valley tech companies.

Discord pays well and provides great benefits. They also provide a tremendous amount of support in the form of flexibility, work-life balance, and caring about the team as actual living breathing people. Compensation is reviewed frequently and the review process is clearly documented and fair.

We have transitioned to remote work, but remain in contact throughout the day over Discord. There's plenty of help when you get stuck and time to collaborate and have fun. Discord still surprises us with fun treats at home, great equipment, and funds to outfit our home offices.

Everybody at the company both wants to accomplish amazing things and support each other doing amazing things. Unlike other companies where the competitiveness between employees is almost encouraged, Discord encourages true collaboration and accomplishments are acknowledged at the team level.

There are a lot of things right and wrong with Discord, but the main thing that probably needs to change is the general attitude towards different opinions.

My interviewer (Justin) listened to me and gave me his honest opinion. I took his advice. So far so good!

I liked that the programming exercises were not whiteboard style where the interviewer is silent and waiting for you to get to the right answer. It's nice that they felt like a collaborative session with the interviewer.

I liked that the interview process let me meet a bunch of people from across the company. And also the engineering questions were a little more "practical" (as far as interviews go anyway) instead of gimmicky.

The interview panel includes so many people that aren't just engineers or engineer managers. Meeting everyone and seeing how many disciplines make Discord work was great. The interview was challenging but focused around actually writing code, so it felt relevant and not just abstract whiteboarding
