Review from Engineering Dept
Even though the technology and goal of the company is pretty fun, the atmosphere can be rather toxic
Review from Engineering Dept
Strong leadership skills and clear goal.
Review from Engineering Dept
I think they really care about making Discord a great place to work and a positive force in the world.
Review from Engineering Dept
They treat us like adults and are as transparent as they can be. I can talk to them like peers about product feedback or ideas.
Review from Engineering Dept
Transparency, honestly, and integrity. Leadership provides clear and thoughtful reasoning behind every decision. They request and meaningfully act on feedback. They earnestly work to make the company successful and a great place to work.
Review from Engineering Dept
The leadership team is human, kind, smart, honest, transparent, and impactful
Review from Engineering Dept
Listening to others. The work culture can be downright toxic at times, but manageable when there's a powerful person in the room. Most negative events happen when higher-ups aren't looking.
Review from Engineering Dept
Equitable salary, excellent benefits, flexible environment
Review from Engineering Dept
Honestly it's a whole lot of money
Review from Engineering Dept
I think we are compensated fairly, and I like that the regular review process ensures we are in line with the rest of the company and the industry.
Review from Engineering Dept
Honestly, I think my salary at Discord is quite competitive. The other benefits like health insurance are up to par for silicon valley tech companies.
Review from Engineering Dept
Discord pays well and provides great benefits. They also provide a tremendous amount of support in the form of flexibility, work-life balance, and caring about the team as actual living breathing people. Compensation is reviewed frequently and the review process is clearly documented and fair.

Collaborative, supportive, diverse, innovative, inclusive, motivated
Review from Engineering Dept
They are all good at their jobs. They allow me to be good at mine.
Review from Engineering Dept
They're rather passionate about what we're building, but as I've said before they can be pretty toxic
Review from Engineering Dept
I learn a lot from my team, I like that we have a wide variety of driven intelligent engineers from varying past experiences.
Review from Engineering Dept
I like my (engineering) team a lot. People have different strengths but everyone is very good at their job and we work together well. I feel like everyone is invested in the team and the company's success.
Review from Engineering Dept
Problems seem to be brushed over, even when I go talk to a boss directly.
Review from Engineering Dept
The culture is collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented, fostering innovation and a strong sense of community.
Review from Engineering Dept
I feel that the company really cares about the well being and happiness of the employees. I like that when I have raised concerns in the past they have been directly addressed and change has often followed them.
Review from Engineering Dept
The best part of the culture is the trust everyone has in each other as individuals to do a good job.
Review from Engineering Dept
We have transitioned to remote work, but remain in contact throughout the day over Discord. There's plenty of help when you get stuck and time to collaborate and have fun. Discord still surprises us with fun treats at home, great equipment, and funds to outfit our home offices.
Review from Engineering Dept
Everybody at the company both wants to accomplish amazing things and support each other doing amazing things. Unlike other companies where the competitiveness between employees is almost encouraged, Discord encourages true collaboration and accomplishments are acknowledged at the team level.
Review from Engineering Dept
There are a lot of things right and wrong with Discord, but the main thing that probably needs to change is the general attitude towards different opinions.
Review from Engineering Dept
A better HR to manage the negative culture. Higher-ups don't seem to care.
Review from Engineering Dept
Kindly response and positive activity.

My interviewer (Justin) listened to me and gave me his honest opinion. I took his advice. So far so good!
Review from Engineering Dept
I liked that the programming exercises were not whiteboard style where the interviewer is silent and waiting for you to get to the right answer. It's nice that they felt like a collaborative session with the interviewer.
Review from Engineering Dept
I liked that the interview process let me meet a bunch of people from across the company. And also the engineering questions were a little more "practical" (as far as interviews go anyway) instead of gimmicky.
Review from Engineering Dept
The interview panel includes so many people that aren't just engineers or engineer managers. Meeting everyone and seeing how many disciplines make Discord work was great. The interview was challenging but focused around actually writing code, so it felt relevant and not just abstract whiteboarding
Review from Engineering Dept
Make the person being interviewed feel comfortable.
Review from Engineering Dept
Solving challenging problems, collaborating with teammates, and making a meaningful impact.
Review from Engineering Dept
Writing code so that things work correctly.
Review from Engineering Dept
The people I work with.
Review from Engineering Dept
I like the opportunity to work across different parts of Discord and ship changes that immediately impact Discord's large user base.
Review from Engineering Dept
Working on something that directly improves my lives and my friends' and families' lives.
