Q&A With Google Employees

There’s no one kind of Googler, so we’re always looking for people who can bring new perspectives and life experiences to our teams. If you’re looking for a place that values your curiosity, passion, and desire to learn, if you’re seeking colleagues who are big thinkers eager to take on fresh challenges as a team, then you’re a future Googler.

How employees describe working at Google

People are good, everything looks good and work most of the time, the progress is slow but it feels like always progressing.

Review from Engineering Dept

The company isn't perfect, but is generally pretty good. The fact that the people actually reflect on what is wrong is great, and I think people don't appreciate it as much as they should.

Review from Engineering Dept

care more for the associate and reduce the micromanagement

Review from Engineering Dept

It's a lot of work, but also really satisfying. Sometimes it's too competitive or too much of a rat race but I think that's every job around here.

Asked to the Operations Department at Google

  • Badly. It's a strategy used to purge older members of the staff.

  • I feel that I have been targeted at Google for termination. I am an older engineer and usually assigned open ended problem to solve each quarter with unreasonable time lines. Younger engineers at the same level are allowed to work on frontend development, but I am not allowed to. I've told that I was too senior to work in that area, but how can that be so when there is another engineer at my level working on frontend?

Asked to the Engineering Department at Google

  • Not at all. I had to initiate pair programming to interact. No one shows you around the code.

  • Not at all... Inexperienced folks that thought they knew way more than they did, and that their work was the most important one in the world. But I guess this was an exception... I don't think I have seen any other team like that. I have switched teams internally and my new team a was completely different experience.

  • Google seems to go out of its way to attract and hire under represented groups, but this is probably not enough for some people. Having a workforce that is more representative of the general population is probably not realistic for various reasons.
