Frequently Asked Questions About Hopper

  • How to view your fare details in the app:

    To view your fare details, head to "Trips" tab at the bottom right of your app, select the trip that you need to verify the fare details for and tap on "Fare Details" under " Trip Summary."

    From here, you can see if your booking is refundable, the airline's baggage policy, and any fees associated to changing your itinerary. Please note that Hopper is 100% bound by the airline's fare rules for each booking.

  • On some occasions, the charge may not post to your bank statement right away. Not to worry though! Processing times for your financial institution may vary but the charge should appear within a few days.

    Whenever a booking has been confirmed and ticketed by the airline, you will receive a confirmation email from Hopper titled "Your Hopper receipt and itinerary." Your confirmation email will include all of the details of your upcoming trip, as well as the breakdown of fees.

  • Hopper verification links are only valid when opened from the device that requested the link, and can only be opened through the Hopper app.

    Troubleshooting Tips

    If you are on your device where Hopper is installed, and the link is still being opened by a web browser, please make sure to press the link to manually ensure that it gets opened by the app. You'll see a pop-up on your phone that says "Open in Hopper" and from there you should get logged in.

  • If you have been charged for an unsuccessful booking, don't panic!Sometimes when you attempt to book a flight in the app, the airline will place an authorization for the charge before the booking has been confirmed. Whenever a booking is unsuccessful, this charge is automatically reversed and the charge will drop off from your account within a few business days.

    Good to know

    If you have booked multiple passengers on a booking, the airline will often place individual charges for each ticket issued, rather than one full total charge.

    You will need a government-issued form of identification to check in, proceed through airport security, and board your flight. Please ensure that your the traveler information you enter into the Hopper app when booking matches this ID exactly.

    For many international flights, you will need a valid passport to travel and pass through immigration and customs. Additionally, some international trips require visas or other special travel documentation. It is your responsibility to research and secure any required visas or other travel documentation prior to your flight.

    Please note that Hopper is not liable for any issues caused by incorrect or invalid traveler information such as a misspelled name or incorrect birth date entered at the time of booking. Furthermore, Hopper is not liable for any issues caused by a failure to research and obtain the proper ID and/or required documents to travel.

    You may be denied boarding if:

    Your passport is expired or will be expiring soon.

    You do not have an approved form of ID on your person at the time of boarding.

    Your ID does not match the name or birth date on your booking or boarding pass exactly.

    The form of ID does not meet the requirements of the airline, airport, or governing authority of your origin or destination.

    You do not have the Visa, Transit Visa, or other documents required for your trip.

  • All ticket prices will include both the base fare and taxes and fees such as fuel surcharge, airport fees, etc.

    Please note that your airline may charge additional fees for baggage, meals, seat selection, and other add-ons. Those optional fees are not included in the total price prior to payment. If you would like to purchase one of these add-ons, you may do so directly with the airline.

    If you would like to make a change to your booking, the airline will most likely charge a fee to do so.

  • Searching for Flights

    Enter your departure and arrival cities and select the desired airports.

    Then select either round trip or one way.

    You may want to apply some filters if you'd like to reduce the length of stops or avoid basic economy fares.

    Selecting Your Flights

    You can select travel dates based on your budget.

    Hopper will show you the lowest available price for these dates and by scrolling down you can see price predictions.

    If you'd like to wait for a better deal, create a Watch! Hopper will notify when there is a price change.

    Buying Your Flight

    To select your departure and return flights, tap "View Flights."

    Once you've selected an outbound and a return flight, the Fair Bear will show you the fare details.

    To proceed with the booking, select "Continue" and add your traveler name and details.

    Add a Payment Method and "Swipe to Pay"

    Next, add your payment method. Hopper will do one more check to make sure your itinerary is still available.

    Once you have reviewed your flight details, swipe to pay!

    You will receive a notification to your email letting you know that your booking is being processed.

    Once confirmed by the airline, you'll receive another e-mail with your itinerary, receipt and ticket number. Under the "Trips" tab in the app, you'll be able to view your booking confirmation, check in from the airline's website and go!

  • If we need to confirm your payment method, you might receive an e-mail or text message from Hopper.

    Due to high volumes of internet fraud, we're just trying to make sure that the cardholder has in fact authorized the transaction and booking. We have an automated system that tells us when a booking needs a closer look, and rest assured, our Trust and Safety team will never ask for any sensitive information beyond the minimum needed to establish the cardholders identity.

  • Sometimes we need a little more time to complete a booking, so we mark a booking as pending rather than keeping you waiting. This can be for a number of reasons, such as the airline needing more time to confirm the itinerary on their end or Hopper's payment systems requiring extra time to confirm the validity of a payment method.

    Once your booking is confirmed, you should see a confirmation email sent to the email address associated with your Hopper account. Additionally, your booking will show as " Confirmed " in your Trips tab.

  • If you made your booking within the past 24 hours, you might still be eligible to cancel your booking without penalty. Click here for information about same-day cancellation in the app.

    If you need to request a cancellation for your booking outside of the free cancellation period, contact Hopper Support.

    If you can no longer travel due to the death or illness of yourself, an accompanying passenger or immediate family member, please click here.

    Good to know

    For some bookings, the airline may offer a one-year future travel credit to re-book your flights at a later date if you cancel your booking prior to departure.

    Ifyou'vebooked with a low cost carrier such as Spirit Airlines or Ryanair, the booking is managed directly by the airline and youll need to contact them to pursue a cancellation.

    If you've booked a basic economy ticket, refunds are not permitted by the airline for cancellations and the airline will not make exceptions.

  • In order to provide our users with the best insights and maintain the accuracy of our notifications, you can give Hopper a $5 tip with your booking. You can always opt out and toggle the fee to be left off of your purchase.

    Good to know

    The tip is shown alongside all airline taxes and fees in your fare breakdown before you "swipe to pay" so no worries about hidden fees!

    Hopper does not charge any fees to make changes to your booking. All fees for making changes or cancellations will be determined by and charged by the airline directly.

  • Some users may see a $1 charge posted to their bank statement. No worries! Each time a user enters a new payment method into the app, Hopper places a small temporary charge in order to confirm that the payment method is valid. That charge automatically reverses once that payment method has been run through the payment processor and should drop off from your account shortly.

  • If there's a pending authorization on the card, the fees should be refunded to you shortly. If your credit card was declined during booking, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

    There were insufficient funds available on the card.

    Your bank or credit card company flagged the purchase via their own security processes and did not allow the transaction to go through.

    The airline does not accept the card type.

    You have exceeded the maximum number of purchases Hopper allows per day.

    Troubleshooting Tips

    Double-check the postal/ZIP associated to the card. This is the info that is most often incorrect!

    Contact your bank or credit card provider to ensure that there are sufficient funds on the card.

    Contact your card provider to add Hopper as a pre-authorized merchant.

    Wait a full 24 hours from the time of your last booking attempt to retry a new booking with Hopper.

  • You cannot currently view your departure or arrival terminals in the Hopper app. The best way to find this information is to either contact the airline directly or manage your booking on their website.

    Terminals are often not determined until 24-hours from your departure date and are also subject to change within that period and the moment you receive your boarding pass. If you're going to contact the airline to request the terminal information, it's best to do this within one week of departure.

    The departure gate will usually not be determined until you get to the airport, and you will often need to check the airport screens during layovers to find out your boarding gate.

    Good to know

    Airlines can make changes to the departure or arrival terminal or gate at any time. It's always best to check the departure and arrival screens at the airport when travelling to have the most current information.

  • While seat selection is not available directly in the Hopper App, you can often select your seats directly with the airline you're flying with.

    Each airline handles seat selection differently. You can check your options by managing your booking on the airline's website, for example:

    Advanced seat selection

    You may be able to select your seat at check-in.

    A seat may automatically have been assigned by the airline.

    Good to know

    There may be a fee to select your seat depending on the ticket purchased.

    Seat selection may not always be available.

    Some airlines only assign seats at the gate.

    Seat selection is not permitted for basic economy bookings.

  • Boarding passes are provided directly by the airlineat check-in, which is usually accessible 24 hours before your departure time.Some airlines will offer electronic boarding passes for your phone so you can head straight to security at the airport (provided you don't have any bags to check-in), but if you wish to have a paper boarding pass, you can always check-in directly at the airline counter in the airport and they agents should provide that to you. :)

  • You can often Check-In directly on the airline's website 24 hours before departure. If online Check-In is not available, you can always check in at the airport.

    Here's how to access the airline's Check-In page:

    Under the "Trips" tab in the app, select the trip you'd like to Check-In for and at the bottom, select "Check In & Manage Booking."

    The airline's confirmation code will come up. Copy the code and then tap "Go to Site."

    You will be directed to the airlines website to begin the Check-In process!

    Boarding passes(electronic and paper) will always be provided directly by the airline and cannot viewed in the Hopper app.

  • If you've missed your flight or think you're going to miss your flight, contact the airline right away. Depending on the circumstance, they may or may not be able to accommodate you on the next available flight.

    If you are going to miss a connecting flight due to an airline delay, see an airline agent in the airport as soon as you land at your layover airport. They should be able to accommodate you on the next flight.

    You should arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before an international flight and at least 2 hours before a domestic flight. Many airlines have strict cut-off times for checking in and will not allow you to board if you arrive at the airport too late.

  • If you've cancelled a booking within the free cancellation period(usually within 24 hours), then the charge will either drop off from your account or you will receive a refund within about 3-10 business days.

    If you've cancelled a refundable booking, you will see a refund from the airline within about 7-10 business days, but it can sometimes take up to 2 billing cycles to post on your end.

    While baggage cannot be purchased directly in the Hopper app, you can often add bags with the airline you're flying with by managing your booking on their website. Baggage allowance depends on the airline's policy and ticket fare type.

    Checking the baggage allowance for your booking:

    Select the 'Trips' icon at the bottom right of your screen in the app.

    Click on the trip you wish to view the baggage policy for.

    Open the 'Fare Details'section to display the baggage allowance and the airline's fees.

  • If you've entered your traveler name incorrectly for your booking and you need to fix it, it cannot be resolved by editing your name in the app. Please contact support with a copy of your official travel document so we can contact the airline. If authorized by the airline, we should be able to process a name correction for you.

    If you made your booking within the past 24 hours, you might still be eligible to cancel your booking without penalty. This way, you can re-book with the correct name without having to pay any potential airline fees.   • Unfortunately, we are unable to add additional travelers over 2 years old to existing bookings. If you'd like to add an additional traveler to an existing booking, you'll need to book a separate ticket for the passenger.

    You can either:

    Book a ticket with the same airline and itinerary through the Hopper app. OR

    Contact the airline directly with the flight numbers and purchase an additional ticket directly through them. They might be able to link the 2 bookings.

  • If you are looking to transfer your ticket to a different passenger (a change in name and date of birth), there are only a small handful of airlines that will allow you to transfer the ticket. Most major airlines do not allow this.

    Before requesting this with Hopper, it's best to contact the airline directly to see if they permit name transfers for you booking.

    Important:

    In order to make a change to your booking or request a refund with the airline, you will need to provide official documentation (e.g. Official doctor's certificate or death certificate). Airlines usually take into consideration documents that are typed on official hospital letterhead explaining the patient's diagnosis. The document must include doctor's name and signature.

  • If you've entered your birth date incorrectly for your booking, it cannot be resolved by editing your traveler birth date in the app. Please contact support so that we can correct it in the airline's system.

    Be sure to edit this in the app as well so that future bookings will reflect the correct birth date.

    Good to know

    It is forbidden to change a birth date from an adult (18+) to a minor unless the passenger is travelling with an accompanying adult. Hopper does not support minor-only bookings.

    You could be denied boarding if the birth date on your ticket does not correctly match your travel ID.

  • A valid mobile phone number is required to set up and create account, and you must be able to send and receive SMS texts in order for Hopper to complete the verification process.

    Here's how to create an account on Hopper:

    Open the app on your smartphone.

    Select the "Trips" icon at the bottom right of your screen.

    Click on the "Log In/Sign Up" button.

    Enter the phone number of the device you are currently using.

    You will receive an SMS message.

    Once we've confirmed your phone number, you can finish creating your account.

    You will need to add a traveler and payment method in order to book a flight.

  • If you've booked a basic economy or light fare ticket, it is the airline's most restrictive non-refundable fare. The airline will not allow you to make any changes or cancellations to the itinerary and they do not make exceptions.

    If you'd like to avoid basic fares, Hopper allows you to filter them out of your search results to ensure you end up with the comfy seats you are looking for!

    Seat selection

    Advanced seat selection is not available for basic economy bookings and families will often not be able to sit together. Some airlines may allow you to select your seats in advance for a fee.

    Baggage

    Depending on your itinerary, a carry-on bag may or may not be allowed. In the case that a carry-on is not permitted, you will be required to check your bag and pay the airline's checked bag fee.

  • In order to give yourself and your traveling companions ample time to Check-In, drop off bags, and get through security, it's important to get to the airport well in advance of your flight time.

    If you are denied Check-In due to late arrival to the airport, the airline may require you to purchase a new ticket to travel.

    For domestic flights

    We recommend getting to the airport at least two hours in advance of boarding time.

    For international flights

    We recommend getting to the airport at least three hours in advance or boarding time.

We may tell you to buy or wait based on new information we've received, such as an airline announcing a great deal or an adjusted algorithm that indicates prices are increasing faster than expected.   • Our agreement with most lost cost carriers such as Spirit Airlines or Norwegian Air requires that we collect the funds directly and then forward payment to the airline from Hoppers account. This is why you may have seen an unfamiliar card number listed for the payment on your booking.

    Not to worry! We are able to process the refund via our payment processor. Simply contact support and send us the confirmation of refund provided to you by the airline and we will reimburse you promptly.

  • If you accidentally booked more than one confirmed reservation for the exact same traveler(s) and itinerary, please reach out to us. We will contact the airline to see if they will authorize a refund on their end. Pleas note that any refund would be a the discretion of the airline and it is not guaranteed.

    Before reaching out to request a refund for an accidental duplicate booking, please verify the following:

    The duplicate reservations are for the exact same itineraries

    The duplicate reservations are for the exact same passenger(s), including spelling of name and date of birth.

    Any refund request must be submitted well before the departure date of the flight. Requests cannot be made after the travel date has passed.

  • All payments for Hopper hotel bookings are charged directly through the app. You'll be charged at the time of booking by Hopper rather than at check-in by the hotel.

    Some hotels will charge an additional fee that will be collected by the hotel at check-in. Well always let you know if a hotel will charge a facilities fee on the confirmation screen before booking.

    Good to know

    It can sometimes take the hotel a few days after purchase to recognize your reservation in their system.

    The hotel will usually require you to place a credit card on file to cover any possible incidentals.

  • Due to our contractual agreements with hotels and airlines, Hopper does not offer any discounts or coupons for children, students, seniors, large groups, or military personnel. Prices are always set by the airlines and hotels directly.

    If an airline offers a lower price for infants (under 2 years of age) or children (under 12), this price will be shown to users while booking in the app.

  • If you're seeing a double-charge for one booking, don't worry! Airlines will place an authorization for the purchase to ensure that there are ample funds in the account. Once they place the official charge, the authorization charge will drop off shortly, leaving just the one official charge.

    Hopper collects massive amounts of data, amounting to more than one billion individual, real-time flight prices each day! Our expert data science team then develops algorithms that analyze these pricing trends. These algorithms predict how flight prices will fluctuate based on what they've done in the past, and in turn power the notifications we send to you about whether to buy now or wait for a better deal.

    How far in advance do we predict prices?

    We encourage users to set up their watches as early as possible, but we may not send you any notifications for a while if the itinerary you're looking at is farther out--we don't want to bother you if we don't have any helpful information yet! Note that some airlines don't sell tickets further than six or nine months in advance of the travel date.

    When your departure date draws a a little closer and our forecasting becomes more relevant, we'll send you those helpful notifications!

  • Some hotels charge fees on top of the regular booking fee. They are usually referred to as Property, Resort, or Facility Fees

    These fees are to be paid directly to the hotel when you check in, not to Hopper. No worries about hidden fees though! Well always let you know about these fees on on the payment confirmation screen before you "swipe to pay" and on your confirmation email.

  • When available, you should be able to request the bed types upon booking in the app. Please refer to your confirmation email to verify the bed configuration of your hotel room. If you'd like to request to change bed types, please contact the hotel directly. Depending on availability, they may or may not be able to accommodate a different room type for you.

    Good to know

    The hotel may charge you an additional fee for the new room type requested.
