My current supervisor has been positive & a real pleasure to work with. But overall, I find it interesting that the worst offenders of professionalism are not corrected & still exist like cancers within the company. All the surveys in the world do not change poor behavior, harsh action does.

I have been with the company for several years and worked in many roles and have been successful in each role. My current position has by far has been one of my favorites, i thoroughly enjoy what i do it. I am beyond discouraged in the recent dynamics of this team and the example set by leadership.

Listening to the people - there are a lot of great ideas out there that are overlooked everyday. Also cutting ties with problematic people - there are a lot of people still working in the company that have been openly divisive & counter culture. Yet, they still exist and that has been disheartening.

Listening to hear, not listening to respond. Solutions are offered for many things, but because it may not fit the mold at the moment, it's not listened to or it's just brushed aside instead of tried.

I personally appreciate being paid a base salary that commensurates with where I reside and am happy with it, but previous Higher Ed companies I have worked for have had a fairly strong and rewarding bonus structure which has been a pretty low return at HotChalk.

The quality and consistency of my work is not valued. We are so concerned with treating people the same and "setting an example" with the old school view(s) that one person ruins it for the rest of us. We should highlight and reward people based on their commitment and contribution to our successes.

At Hotchalk, it's common for people to wear multiple hats. There are people that go above and beyond and always wear multiple hats, but nothing is offered to them. This is not the best way to keep good employees happy.

Some team members are positive, hardworking, and open to constructive feedback which has been great. I am a big fan of those on the team who are interested in new strategies and approaches - especially since Partnership is a relatively new department!

The team environment is not very great. There are always great people in the company, and I enjoy my relationships with them while I'm here, but there are a lot of people who would step on you to get what they want.

I think my supervisor and Bertelsmann have shown that there is an intention to do the right things - diversify the workforce, reward those who are most productive, build pathways of growth for those who are hungry for them (note: "intention").

The level of trust between leadership & the rest of the company is completely broken - employees have stated that they do not trust senior leadership across the board. Direct reports seem to receive the brunt of the accountability. Cheerleaders do not matter when the players are terrible.

Again, I don't believe that the people who go above and beyond are properly valued. Everyone wants something different out of their work experience. For some, it's money. For some, it's time. Knowing your employees and what makes them thrive can go a long way.
