Q&A With Michael Kors Employees

Asked to the Marketing Department at Michael Kors

  • People run the gamut of out the door at 6 on the dot, to staying past 8 every night, it all depends on the individual. The vibe is not warm. It's very cold, divided, and sometimes hostile. The overall culture at MK is intense, fast-paced, overly political, and cliquy. If you don't have a personal squad in or out of your immediate team you will feel isolated.

Asked to all employees at Michael Kors

  • Over-prepare. Come with examples of past accomplishments and parallel them with the job you are interviewing for. Ask questions that show you've done research on the company, and ask questions that are related specifically to the job you are interviewing for. Stay away from questions about, what's my growth track here and what's the company culture like, because those answers will unfortunately be negative and may make the interviewer uncomfortable.

Asked to all employees at Michael Kors

  • Extensive (6 people), but positive. I really wanted the job and over-prepared, so I asked a ton of questions about the overall company objectives down to the individual objectives of the job, smiled a lot, and told a lot of examples of previous experiences at prior jobs and related them back to the tasks/aspects of the job I was interviewing for.

  • The process was surprisingly quick- 6 weeks from first HR call to offer. That's lightning speed in my experience.

Asked to all employees at Michael Kors

  • They want to know all about your professional experience but also who you are and what you're interested in. Your cultural fit is considered just as important as your professional fit. Confidence is key. If you don't hit it off personally with the majority of your interviewers, you won't get hired. If you are too nervous and don't seem "normal," you have no shot. Best to ask a lot of intelligent and specific questions, they are well-received.

Asked to all employees at Michael Kors

  • It was extensive (3 rounds, 6 people), but I wasn't given a task or presentation to complete, which I really appreciated (I don't think it's fair for prospective employers to ask you to do work for them if they are not paying you). But that's not the case with all divisions at MK, I heard of some who did have to complete a project unfortunately.

  • No suits! Flattering professional structured knee-length dress with sleeves is best. If wearing a neutral color dress, add a pop of color with a bold lip, or a bright necklace to show you have a personality, an appreciation for fashion, and pay attention to detail.
