What do you like best about the leadership team?
I appreciate the obvious and deep concern with providing value to teachers and students. I appreciate the details on what's going well, what we could improve, where we're headed, including explanations about why.

Our leadership team genuinely invests in people and their passions, and makes space for staff to explore them.

They are transparent about their plans and opinions. They are reachable and listen to feedback. They all take turns speaking with us at our All-Hands meetings. All new hires get 30 minute small group meetings with ELT, this takes the intimidation down and makes us feel part of the team.

Communication and transparency with the company's direction thru the last few years of COVID and returning to normal have been stellar. It seems like the everyday employee's life was taken into account whether it be WFH or other things.

What is the best part about your compensation package?
Comparing in the labor market, I don't think Newsela's compensation package is outstanding. Though, not comparing for a second, of course my salary is the most important part of what Newsela offers me, and I'm incredibly grateful for the privilege of having such solid financial stability.

There is a lot of confusion about salary bands across the company

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
How inclusive and how enriching the work we do is it really reverberates throughout the company. People are always looking for new ways to make the classroom experience better no matter which position you are in at Newsela.

The focus on diversity, especially at leadership levels.

So many of my peers put a high importance on inclusion and diversity. They ask the right questions and hold our executive leaders accountable. It really builds a good sense of belonging when you know your coworkers uphold such great values and are constantly working towards a healthy work space.

We are proud of our product in being able to help the education industry with teachers and students, and because of that I think our culture is very empathetic and teacher-like where we are very open to assisting anyone in their projects and tasks. This helps a growing company to work efficiently.

Transparency and honesty. Truly listen and care about your employees. Stop being hypocritical. Have some more self-awareness and put aside your ego.

Too scattered and haphazard, needs to be made consistent and responsive. Too many candidates lost in convoluted and unresponsive process.
