As a retiree, it's a pleasure to have the opportunity to facilitate an outdoor experience to customers. I do see an internal disconnect with employees, especially the middle managers, and the Vision statement. It appears that at my store, more emphasis is placed memberships than costumer service.

The entire leadership team is kind and consistently display a positive attitude.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The caring attitude that is shared by all of the employees, especially the ones who speak with customers.
What makes you most happy at work?
I love the feeling that comes with helping a customer who for the first time is buying equipment to use outdoors. It is genuinely why I work part-time at REI.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Most of my team members arrive to work eager to help customers and other employees, they are very knowledgeable about many of REI's products, and approach their positions with a smile.
