As a former employee of REI, I go out of my way to shop local outfitters.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I felt undervalued because I came to REI with 20 plus years of hiking and backpacking experience in the white mountains of New Hampshire and that experience was used to move young people that came to REI through the management chain.
What needs to change to make the company culture better?
I don't work there anymore because they broke me. I worked hard assed restaurants for 35 years. I came to REI with a great story and great enthusiasm and REI broke me. I have never worked in an environment where I wasn't recognized and rewarded for my hard work
