Q&A With TravelCenters of America Employees

At TravelCenters of America, we've made a huge investment in the future. But for it to really pay off, we need people who share our commitment. We’re looking for people who are dedicated to improving the quality of life on the road for professional drivers and the traveling public. We need people who understand the importance of a good value and who’ll go out of their way to deliver it. We want our customers to be so satisfied with our service, they choose us every time they travel. And that level of satisfaction starts with TA and Petro people.

How employees describe working at TravelCenters of America

The company seems to focus more on the bonuses that go into their paychecks than the employee's safety and efficiency of the workplace. I have rarely worked for a company who cares less about their employees than BP/TA.

  • 401K; they no longer match now; insurance if you are able to afford it. Most employees can’t afford the insurance. They offer free certification testing; you have to pass the test the first time otherwise you are responsible to pay for any further testing.

Asked to all employees at TravelCenters of America

  • What’s going fastest is the over turn of employees. Corporate bases their decisions based on all TA sites combined instead of by each sites abilities and making budget. My site has been short handed for several years now and they are cutting back hours on our employees. I offered to work less hours to make up for the cut in pay for the parts counter workers but they refused. Now the only 2 parts counter workers we have are looking for new jobs.

  • They do not think very highly of them at all. The only do unannounced spot checks to see what isn’t being done to their satisfaction. Never compliment on what is being done properly and do not interact with the Techs.

Asked to all employees at TravelCenters of America

  • Very secure. I’m preforming more than my job title is required. I’m doing managerial, tech, inventory, parts counter, scheduling, tech training, sales, and when/if there’s time my actual job; which is Quality inspection.

Asked to all employees at TravelCenters of America

  • Change the way employees are paid. If business is slow, Techs only make minimum wage, if business is going strong they have very good pay checks. I would go back to offering incentives to employees to work harder, better, & as a team. Boost morale. Make sure employees are given the recognition they deserve. Too much to mention.
