What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership Reviews

They are supportive and happy to hear feedback as well as to give it on their own

Review from Operations Dept

Approachable, mindful of workloads, supportive in professional as well as personal matters

Review from Operations Dept

The leadership is in general very humble.

No micromanaging. Everyone is given a lot of ownership and trust. Can't speak for other teams and might be missing more visibility, but I love my manager and have only interacted with people who are quite approachable and sensible.

Diverse team and very approachable

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Leadership Reviews

Listening to the employees and having their best interest in mind. A company will be far more successful and retain employees if the employees feel appreciated and thought of. When you treat people like they are disposable, they become resentful and find employment else where.

Being able to speak with them when needed

Everything from self awareness to basic effective communication.

I've been texting and calling about my paycheck. And I don't get no response back

All communication should be on the same level..

Review from Operations Dept

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

There is a high base salary

Challenging but achievable incentive strcture

It is fair enough but could include more benefits

Review from Operations Dept

Equity. But I also think Via is pretty fair with compensation overall.

After the 1-year cliff, options vest every month and it is very easy to exercise. The People team is also super receptive to feedback on benefits.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Compensation Reviews

Salaries are low, benefits are thin (other than great healthcare), 401k match is low, all of which the people team could probably adjust if they were interested in improving rather than control.

Poor management, unfair working conditions.

Feeling undervalued doesn't come from just compensation. But when you are under-compensated, underappreciated, and underutilized, you start to realize that the compensation isn't worth working at Via even if the mission strongly resonates with you.

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

My fellow bus operators have a desire to serve the citizens of this county while doing it in a courteous manner.

Great collaboration, passion for transportation, and motivation to improve the transit tech space.

Everyone cares, and that makes a huge difference. No big egos, just people who are willing to go out of their way to help each other. Probably the healthiest team I've been a part of so far in my professional career.

I don't know them and I never met them

I can't answer this question

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

We have never had a company meeting except for when we first started before June 29 2020 in the STL Market

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

People are down to earth but still brilliant

everybody seems to actually work here for a good cause

Review from Operations Dept

smart people that work fast and get work done quickly

Everyone who joins cares about what we are doing, really feels motivated by the mission. So I'd say everyone is very empathetic and eager to help each other.

I'd say respect. People are empathetic and really care about each other - and this mirrors how we are with our product as well. We are making cities more inclusive and diverse, so you can imagine the kind of people who would be super motivated to join that mission... Via's got a lot of heart!

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

Environment Reviews

Again, it goes back to valuing your employees and making sure they feel it.

Better feedback, local numbers to call

Everybody needs to go to their terminals and pick up our riders

If Via's leadership team starts to think about and treat their employees as humans, it would lead to a huge cultural shift. With the value-extraction mentality starting at the top, it's hard to envision the culture changing significantly at Via.

What did you like most about the interview process?

Interviews Reviews

the chance to get to know a lot of people

It was ok and the trainer was cool

Zoom didn't have to go anywhere

It was pretty laid back and I liked the ride along

Lots of interaction with interviewers after offer stage

Review from Operations Dept

What would you improve about your company's interview process?

Interviews Reviews

Interviewing with the people you will actually work with is fine. But the people team, who you will never work with, has final say, and run an incredibly intensive and biased system that only passes people like them through to the final rounds. Actively holding back diversity.

Spending more time on asking thoughtful questions, trying to learn how you could have a positive impact on the team and mission, etc. would go a long way. Currently, they are more interested in attempting to demonstrate how smart/great they are, which comes off as a little juvenile.

What makes you most happy at work?

Outlook Reviews

Interacting with customers and co-workers.

Co-workers and serving our customers - improving transit.

A sense of achievement and the knowledge that my work can have an impact on our customers

My team! This is about support 24/7, help and motivation.

Review from Operations Dept

I love my team and I have the best lead I've ever had in my professional career. I learn a lot every day and I feel like there are tons of growth opportunities. The pay isn't bad at all either!

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Outlook Reviews

Better feedback and better ways to fuel

If Via's social mission can be combined with sound management practices - putting their customers first and focus on having a positive impact - then Via can certainly be an extraordinary organization. Their singular focus on sales and revenue rather than impact makes it challenging.
