I left Walmart recently after 14 years of service due to my job position being eliminated. I always enjoyed the work, the associates and customers.

Walmart conducts a STAR based interview- expecting you to give them a situation, task, action, and result for every answer. 1. Name a time when you had to make a hard decision. 2. Tell me about a time when you told management about a security risk or threat

I believe it is our job, as Customer Service is a large part of our job, to remain approachable. If having a beard impacts the majority of customers from approaching you, with regard to hygeine of your beard and not another reason, then I say try improving your beard.

It is different in different departments. But mostly no graphics on shirts, this does not include patterns. No leggings, jeggings, sweat pants, yoga pants and for most departments no shorts at all. The departments that allow shorts they must be close to knee length.

No matter what your problem is if it is not how they figured it in or are being told by upper management you’re wrong
They cover up for their managers. They are abusive and get away with it. Home office does nothing to deter the behavior despite multiple complaints about the same individuals.

Most of them are fun and easy going
Range from college educated and intensely "Walmart way" oriented to minimally educated but willing to learn. Management tends to concentrate on making certain that home office initiated processes are implemented at every level, since most lead to increased productivity, better stocking levels, and ultimately a better customer experience.

How's the work life balance at Walmart?
Could be better, especially at the assistant manager level
Walmart is severely understaffed. The management teams expects you to do the job of 3 people during your shift. They also expect you to stay later, come in early, or give up your day off to meet the needs of the company. But you can't go over 40 hours so you'll have to take 3 hour lunches to save their payroll.

I work hard even if we never get told how well we are doing over night. We get blamed for everything

My coworkers and I remember we are one. We are the ones customers come and talk to. We are the front end and the customers best friends.
What are the most important soft skills to be successful at Walmart?
Following the new process plans
Be able to be nice to customers even when they are being abusive towards you. No matter where you work in the store, you have to have really good customer skills.
To be able to say " Thank you" and "Have a nice day" even when you don't mean it.
What is the best advice you could give someone during their first month at Walmart?
Be patient don't stress relax take my day at time. When unsure ask questions

New leader that has outstanding knowledge of Walmart apparel.
Cooking and using a slicer with a lot of common sense. Good attitude working with others. Knowing how to read, write, understand and speak legible proper english. Following directions.
