IBM Engineering Department Employee Reviews

What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership Reviews

I appreciate the transparency provided by the leadership team. I feel as though I'm kept "in the loop" as things are changing. I also appreciate the opportunities that I've had to attend off-site events where I was able to meet members of my team as well as others outside of my team, in person.

Review from Engineering Dept

Leadership team always try to involve you into the initiatives they are taking.

Review from Engineering Dept

Our leaders communicate with a good combination of empathy, passion, and pragmatism.

Review from Engineering Dept

Transparency knowledge vision communication understanding

Review from Engineering Dept

Alignment on the ambition and general Clarity of vision on what's needed to achieve.

Review from Engineering Dept

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Leadership Reviews

Leadership needs to align internally on vision. Right now there are often divergent opinions in the leadership group making it impossible for teams to deliver.

Review from Engineering Dept

Diversity and Inclusion that isn't just marketing in disguise

Review from Engineering Dept

The leadership team needs to stop patting each other on the back and start patting the employees with better benefits, pay, and training opportunities. IBM pays at the least 30% less than competitors for the same job.

Review from Engineering Dept

Don't leave out women's rights if you're loudly supporting everyone else's rights. Maybe just fire people (and pay severance) than redeploying people into jobs they don't want

Review from Engineering Dept

IBM's lack of a substantive response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the dissolution of reproductive rights across the U.S. has been very, very disheartening. As employees we have repeatedly raised our concerns to the executives and have been all but brushed off.

Review from Engineering Dept

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

RSUs are good along with the base

Review from Engineering Dept

Good 401k plan and competitive overall pay

Review from Engineering Dept

Base is a bit low for similar companies based in the Silicon Valley. Nothing great but not bad.

Review from Engineering Dept

Competitive pay + RSU is a huge plus for me

Review from Engineering Dept

The RSU awards are the best part of the compensation package.

Review from Engineering Dept

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Compensation Reviews

Comparing to the market I would say

Review from Engineering Dept

re-leveling and/or promotions doesn't go even one exceeding exceptions and it leaves one with feeling that it doesn't matter if you over perform or not because you gonna end up to the same results and one career seems doesn't matter

Review from Engineering Dept

Location based pay as employed by HashiCorp is a discriminatory practice based on the old world where jobs are tied to location. The fact that my work isn't being valued as highly as someone living across the border is unfair and disheartening. It perpetuates existing inequalities.

Review from Engineering Dept

I can appreciate that Hashicorp tries to be fiscally conservative, however I don't think haggling over 10 grand for a yearly salary is what would make or break Hashicorp. If it did, then they really don't know how to handle money.

Review from Engineering Dept

Region based pay is a terrible idea. You have extremely skilled people, with the same expenses as the U.S. who get paid 1/2 as much.

Review from Engineering Dept

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

My teammates are kind and eager to collaborate. I feel supported and as though my opinions/input matters, even though I am relatively new. This is one of the best teams I've been a part of in my career.

Review from Engineering Dept

Interactive, trying to solve challenges.

Review from Engineering Dept

caring responsive teamwork culture responsible knowledgeable

Review from Engineering Dept

Smart, dedicated, not inured (still passionate).

Review from Engineering Dept

My team is very approachable and everyone wishes to help each other grow further. Its a mutually supportive system which encourages interaction

Review from Engineering Dept

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

some are extremely negative people

Review from Engineering Dept

Within the CIO, the average technical aptitude leaves much to be desired.

Review from Engineering Dept

There is no sense of camaraderie. We are all mercenaries.

Review from Engineering Dept

There is a lot of unwarranted arrogance among the engineers at hashicorp. Things are often dramatically overengineered without proper testing.

Review from Engineering Dept

Company has a culture of having too many meetings, everyone behaves as a senior executive and few people actually gets work done

Review from Engineering Dept

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

There are too many new learnings which are good for my career.

Review from Engineering Dept

Everyone cares about the way they communicate and engage with each-other.

Review from Engineering Dept

responsible polite being nice communication

Review from Engineering Dept

The culture seems to welcome learning and acceleration of each other in a way where everyone can grow as they'd like

Review from Engineering Dept

The inclusiveness is the most positive aspect of the company culture.

Review from Engineering Dept

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

Environment Reviews

We need a new COO and organization. Everyone defaults to Slack messages and impromptu Zoom calls, nothing is written down or documented.

Review from Engineering Dept

More HR activities that integrates coworkers

Review from Engineering Dept

I recently added to IBMer group due to a goverment changes in my country but worked as non-IBMer for 1 year before. It's new to me the IBM culture, I started to understand the meaning of IBM culture and I liked so much. I have no complaints at this day.

Review from Engineering Dept

provide some goodies and other small benefits to keep connected with the company

Review from Engineering Dept

the controlling and coercive leadership style of my direct supervisor does not inspire me, but rather it makes me feel like I need to change role or potentially leave IBM. I find it difficult to be myself and contribute to my fullest

Review from Engineering Dept

Interviews Reviews

It was based on principles.

Review from Engineering Dept

promising future: that's what drives us

Review from Engineering Dept

done by staff & managers

Review from Engineering Dept

Honest feedback loop and guidance

Review from Engineering Dept

It was very straightforward. "This is what the role entails, it fits your skill set as discussed, any questions?"

Review from Engineering Dept

learning and contributing to the product

Review from Engineering Dept

GSD. Leading through change and transformation for maturity and predictability.

Review from Engineering Dept

Being part of a critical product in the space and having coworkers that are pleasant to interact with

Review from Engineering Dept

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Outlook Reviews

There's just too much going on all the time. I'm overloaded and pretty sure everyone else is too. Too many objectives all over the place with no concerns for whether they're accomplished or not.

Review from Engineering Dept

Fix compensation and leveling - HashiCorp significantly under-levels/under-titles engineers across the entire R&D organization relative to the rest of the industry, and equity compensation is quite poor for a public company.

Review from Engineering Dept

Given IBM's largely apathetic response to the dissolution of reproductive rights in the U.S., it is hard to feel excited about going to work for a company which does not seem to care about the basic rights of its employees.

Review from Engineering Dept

HashiCorp is losing steam because its only focused on integrating with internal products.
