Valued Channel Partner,
Ingersoll Rand IT Systems Cutover Blackout Period
We continue to prepare to separate the Ingersoll Rand Industrial and Climate segments into two standalone companies, and combine our Ingersoll Rand Industrial segment with Gardner Denver in late Q1. Separating our IT systems is one of our next processes, and we want to let you know the timing and what to expect during this period.
We’ve conducted extensive testing for the last few months to ensure we minimize disruption for our customers, distributors and our sales teams. The cutover details are as follows:
Most applications (including front office portals such as I-Store and Tavant and back-office systems such as Oracle) will be unavailable throughout the blackout period from January 31 7:00 PM EST through February 4 at 6:00 PM EST.
All systems will be down during that timeframe and our operations will not be shipping. All systems are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 4 at 6pm EST.
Key Reminders:
Please make sure all orders are placed with a requirement date before or after the blackout period to minimize impact to your business.
We expect our business to be operational and running normal on Wednesday, February 5.
We understand this blackout period is an inconvenience. As always, we are committed to working with you to ensure we meet your needs.
If you have any questions, please contact your respective customer experience team.

How do you clean the valve and throttle in an air hammer? Why does my percussive tool blow the air by and not hammer?
Environment
Any customer, potential customer, retailer and/or service technician looking to flush their percussive tool.
Answer
In the manufacturing process for IR percussive products, the interior machined surfaces are coated with a rust preventative. See "Prior to Use" notes and WARNINGS below:
Prior to Use
Do not lubricate tool with flammable or volatile liquids such as kerosene, diesel or jet fuel. Use only recommended lubricants.
Use only proper cleaning solvents to clean parts. Use only cleaning solvents which meet current safety and health standards. Use cleaning solvents in a well ventilated area.
Tools are coated inside and out with rust-resisting oil before leaving the factory. Before using the tool, remove this oil by dipping the tool in a suitable cleaning solution to wash the oil from the exterior. Pour about 6 cm (1.2 tsp) of a clean, suitable, cleaning solution into the air inlet and operate the tool for about 15 seconds. Dry the tool immediately after cleaning, pour 3 cm (0.6 tsp) of Ingersoll Rand No. 10 Oil into the air inlet and again operate the tool for 5 seconds to lubricate all working parts.
Procedure shouldbe performed prior to use as described and repetition may also serve troubleshooting purposes.
DISCLAIMER: Many solvents, including those listed below; are water-based and must be quickly and fully displaced by air tool lubricant to prevent corrosion.
Solvent Examples:
SENCO PC0677 Pneumatic Tool Cleaner
B'LASTER Air Tool Conditioner

What is single sign-on (SSO) and how am I impacted? Where should I look for procedural guidance regarding login and troubleshooting SSO?
Environment
All web-based services that redirect to signin.irco.com for authentication.
Answer
For purposes of this self-help content; SSO is what Ingersoll Rand FMT is using to authenticate users and provide access control to a growing number of web services delivering content and support services to our employees, business partners and customers. The implementation, known as "Sign In", provides all these functions.
Depending on the type of user you are, the impact to you should never be anything more cumbersome than requesting and/or managing your profile at signin.irco.com.

What is an e-chip or Touchsync, and what value does it provide? Is the e-chip still available?
Environment

Answer
The E-Chip was an inventory control device. Each tool would have a chip and the customer would purchase a scanner and software to keep track of all the tools in a plant. The idea never really gained favor, and has been discontinued.

What Sanding Pads sizes and types (Adhesive/Hook-and-Loop) are available for High Speed Sander models 317A and 317G.
Environment
End-users and Service Centers looking to replace the Sanding Pad or purchase additional pads for a 317A or 317G Sander.
Answer
There are two Sanding Pads (also known as Backing Pads) available for the 317A and 317G Sanders. These include a 3" (74mm) Pad and a 5" (125mm) Pad. These two pads are not sold separately, and are only offered as a pack containing one of each size. The Pack is sold under Part Number 317A-825.
When assembling the Sanding Disc and Pads onto the tool, always use both Backing Pads with the 3" Pad positioned closest to the Sander with the Pads' labels facing the Sander as shown below.
These Sanding Pads are for use with resign-backed or pressure adhesive Sanding Discs only. There are no Hook and Loop Sanding Pads for the 317A and 317G Sanders.

What is a "Floating Spindle" for assembly tool applications?
In what applications should a Floating Spindle be used?
What is the selection criteria used to properly specify the Floating Spindle required for the selected assembly tool/nutrunner that will be used in my application?
Environment
Automated assembly operations where pneumatic or DC Electric fastening tools/nutrunners are used in an assembly line production environment.
Answer
1. What is a "Floating Spindle" for assembly tool applications?
A Floating Spindle is special output spindle that is usually attached to an Inline Assembly Tool/Nutrunner. When a force is applied to the Output Shaft, the Shaft is compressed into the Spindle Body from its fully extended position (C) to a compressed position (B) as shown in the drawing below. When the applied force is removed from the Shaft, a Spring inside the Spindle Body returns the Shaft to its original extended position.
Floating Spindle Stroke, or what is known as "Float," is the total travel of the Spindle Shaft when fully compressed from its extended position (length "C" minus length "B"). The amount of stroke for a given tool model is normally shown in our Assembly catalogs under the column with the following graphic.
2.In what applications should a Floating Spindle be used?
Floating Spindles are designed for easily seating the socket onto the head of the bolt to be fastened in automated assembly operations. As a fixtured tool is lowered onto the workpiece with the spindle slowly turning, the socket rotates until it drops down over the head of the bolt prior to the start of the fastening cycle.
Most Floating Spindles are used with Inline assembly tools/nutrunners that are fixtured and automated, although they can be used on handheld operations as well.
3.What is the selection criteria used to properly specify the Floating Spindle required for the selected assembly tool/nutrunner that will be used in my application?
The following selection criteria is used to chose the best Floating Spindle for the application:
Select the shortest spindle that allows access to the fastener.
Be sure the spindle length allows for access and clearance for the application.
Choose the output drive type and size for the Floating Spindle, keeping in mind the required torque output for the application.
For Additional Assistance:
Please contact our Technical Support Team at if you require additional assistance to identify a specific tool model with a Floating Spindle for your application.

Which air operated Maintenance Duty Impactool should I choose for my application?
Environment
Impacts used for general maintenance, tire changing and bolt-changing operations inAutomotive Service Centers,Fleet Maintenance Centers, and for MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) applications.
Answer
Impactools are typically selected on the basis of Drive Size, Bolt Size, and/or Required Torque.
Key Selection Questions to be considered:
What is the Size of the Bolt to be fastened?
How much Torque is required in Ft-Lbs/Nm for the application?
What Drive Size is needed for the Impactool and Sockets?
What is the Frequency of Use for the Impactool (e.g. continous, intermittent, or occasional)?
What are the Ergonomicneeds of the tool operator for the application (e.g. tool weight, handle type, easy and comfortable accessibility to the work piece)?
General Selection Guidelines and Tips:
Rule #1: Square Drive Size = Maximum Bolt Size
Rule #2: Impacting Time = 3-5 Seconds (max)
Tip: Exceeding the 3-5 second Rule may cause excessive impact mechanism wear and heat
Rule #3: If actual Impacting Time is => 10 Seconds, select a larger/higher torque tool
Rule #4: Choose an Impact for the "worst-case" scenario for which the tool will be routinely used
Tip: Impactools can use a lot of air, especially as they increase in tool/drive size; a proper air supply (air pressure and scfm air flow) will help provide maximum performance.
Impactool Selection Chart:
Most popular models are listed below, however additional models are available for consideration.

How do I properly set the drip rate for my lubricator?
Environment
To assist customers with the proper setting of Lubricator drip rate.
Answer
Note: Lubricatoradjustments need to be made with a constant rate of flow through the lubricator in operating mode.
Depending on your model, you may need a small screwdriver to adjust the drip rate. The adjustment screw (or knob on some models) is located in the sight feed cap on the top of the lubricator.Observe the markings (-,+) on the lubricator body which show direction.Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise to increase and clockwise to decrease.
Determine the average rate of flow (SCFM) through the lubricator, then turn the adjustment screw to obtain one to two drops per minute for each 10-20 SCFM. Example: If the average flow is 30 SCFM, set the drip rate at 2-3 drops per minutes to start. Monitor equipment condition and increase or decrease drip rate as necessary to keep the equipment sufficiently lubricated.

How should operators maintain their impactool?
Environment
Impacts
Answer
Lubrication is an important aspect of air tool maintenance. Please see below for our recommendations for most of our impact tools. Always verify lubricants and quantities with the Product Information Manual for your tool.
Air motor lubrication:
We recommend running an inline lubricator, or manually lubricating the tool through the air inlet with IR#10Air Tool Oil.
This should be done before each use to lubricate the motor, and before storage to prevent corrosion.
10-15 dropsof oil in the air inlet, followed by a few-second run of the tool will distribute the oil through the motor.
If the tool is being used for extended periods of time without a lubricator, oil should be re-applied after every few hours of use.
Impact Mechanism lubrication:
This can be performed two different ways
Through the flush-mount grease fitting using the grease gun included inour Air Care Kits.
By removing the hammer case and greasing manually, per the video linked here: [How To] - Lubricate Impact Mechanism
We recommend mechanism lubrication be performed after every 48 hours of actual tool run-time.
Always check the Product Information Manual to verify grease type and amount for a specific tool.
Lubricants:
Air Care Kit:105-LBK1- Used for most of our 3/8" to 3/4" drive impacts -
105-LBK1 Includes:
One 4 ounce bottle of air tool oil
One 4 ounce tube of the 105 grease
Grease gun to lubricate through the fitting
Air tool oil: Part number10Z4for 4 ounces,10Pfor one pint, 10G for 1 gallon, 10GW for 1 gallon oil with antifreeze.
