You'll never have to tell anyone what you do for a living which is a bigger perk than you may realize. Also, lots of people still think that Lockheed engineers are still the smartest people on earth.

  • Lockheed survey's companies in the geographical area and base salaries upon that information. If you feel you stand out from other engineers and perform with excellence you shouldn't expect your pay to entirely reflect this. It is as likely that your salary will reflect what Raytheon and other DoD/Defence firms are paid as much if not more than your individual contribution.

  • Awesome. Lockheed is a great place for the first 3 years and interns are especially highly compensated. As a fulltime employee it will leave you scratching your head.

  • Manager and coworker. One day.

  • When I was interviewed I was at the facility for almost 9 hours. I was interviewed by multiple programs. Within a day or two, I was offered 3 different positions. That said after I accepted a position it still took about 6 weeks for me to start and due to my lack of more than a Secret clearance, I didn't actually ever work the job I accepted (until about 6 years later).

  • Standard Cubicles with 6 foot high walls. Most offices are secured DoD areas so you can leave your IPod and phone at home. Perfumes and other scented air fresheners are forbidden by policy, tuna and other foods are not.

  • The engineering vibe is in one word, competitive. Poor performers are more likely to be driven out or into management than they are to be mentored and trained. Expect to learn any cutting-edge skills on your own time if you expect to be relevant to the rest of the Software Engineering marketplace in 10 years.

  • There's room for improvement with the work pace for instance you can't sit there and say you're a thousand hours behind schedule and yet it takes you almost an hour to get your people up and working in the

  • medium. They allow time for planning, documentation, review, create dev, .... before going to production. There are a lot of times that you have to wait for other team to review your plan , design, .. but, it makes sense and it is sure way to do any projects.

  • Most promotions require you to interview for internal positions on other programs. Levels 0-1-2 can be promoted within a program but after that, you'll need to look for another program.

  • Record individual performance over the year and review it yearly.

  • Minimal raises, rare promotions, massive amount of red tape, politics and buracracy. Lip service paid to rewarding employees for excellent performance. Example: Other companies offer a bonus for recruitment of talented coworkers in the thousands of $, LM gives you a iTunes gift card and enters you into an IPad raffle. Laughable.

  • They leave because they are not appreciated and all they get is told they don’t do enough while the company wants to strip them of all their benefits

  • My interview took almost 9 hours but the questions were right on par with other companies. They did feed the twenty new interviewees a nice breakfast but that was in 1999. I wouldn't expect that today.
