Generally good. The work itself is fine and relatively rewarding, however, I don't agree with all of the company's policies. Additionally, my manager is awful and incompetent but because the company has difficulty hiring that position, he has remained in the position which is ridiculous.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The interactions with customers. They rely on us for reliable information and advice on how to best take care of their pets and being able to help people is very rewarding.
What are some of the best things about your team?
For the most part we are a cohesive unit- everyone gets along with the exception of the store manager who is so painfully awkward and incompetent that no one gets along with him.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
I like that they are actively making moves to differentiate the company from others in the industry with strict animal rights standards as well as working to provide only the best products for pets and their parents.
What did you like most about the interview process?
Unlike other retail positions, this interview focused heavily on each candidate's true knowledge and experience with animals because this provides the most qualified employees. With that in mind, the payscale is not equivalent to the amount of expertise workers have.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
I understand the company's decision to be strict regarding what products to carry but it alienates people who have used the same products for years or those who cannot afford some of the more expensive alternatives. In doing so easily drove customers to competitors.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
As a student, I would go on leave of absence a couple times per year. Because paid time off is based on averages I was essentially ineligible for benefits even though I worked there for two years and someone working for 3 months had accrued time. Considering understaffed, unpaid for sure.
