They give a lot of autonomy. I have been trusted to own initiatives end to end, including making decisions on the tooling and overall approach. High skill with low ego. People are genuinely strong technically but still open to being challenged and questioned. Hard problems get solved through discussion rather than in isolation, and that combination is harder to find than either trait on its own.
