It is clear that engineering initiatives are driven from the top down, which removes decision making from ICs and in some cases negates previous efforts and introduces significant churn at the individual team level.

More than salary, its the amount of work that a new employee had to do beyond normal hours. My work satisfaction comes from building smart reliable products and learning new. Here the culture seems to be ship junk and fix it later. To build quality products one need to think a lot and it takes time

Slow and delayed promotion cycle and comp increase cycles. Changing to faster comp adjustment cycles to keep pace with market rate would help retain employees. If we are in growth phase, it seems that high attrition would severely impair the company, especially as competition increases.

Senior leadership makes 'mandates' without consideration for how to facilitate, leaving company 'big bets' very poorly organized.

Priorities constantly change and are not clearly communicated down to the rank and file employees. If we want to grow quickly we need to improve communication from leadership.

It feels like upper management has recently become more reactionary instead of being proactive in their decision-making. Also, maybe as a consequence of the previous statement, feels like they say one thing, but do something different.

Leadership throughout the company (starting at the top) makes unilateral decisions many of which directly conflict with previous decisions that ICs are acting on. Communication throughout these levels of leadership are severely lacking. "Because this is what SLTs want" is a poor explanation.
