Fairly transparent (at least they appear to be). They make a good effort to keep everyone informed and seem like they actually pay attention to feedback.
Review from Engineering Dept
Honest, transparent, and they truly put the employees first.
Review from Engineering Dept
Very frequent communication opportunities from various levels of senior management.
Review from Engineering Dept
They care about the staff, especially in work/life balance
Review from Engineering Dept
Making decisions that could plausibly lead to this company doing anything it claims to do.
Review from Engineering Dept
Executive team is too new to MITRE and has no clue about what motivates the majority of employees and satisfies customers. Employees are extremely mistrustful of the executive team.
Review from Engineering Dept
Accountability, making decisions, telling the truth.
Review from Engineering Dept
lack of leadership is the best description. They believe they can replace managerical competence with IT competence. Meaning the one who knows the most should be the manager. Sort of Roman Gladiator type, but they don't allow for bumping.
Review from Engineering Dept
be more aware of the diverse needs of our vast sponsor base
Review from Engineering Dept
Education reimbursement and tuition assistance
Review from Engineering Dept
Among the standard health and financial benefits, MITRE also provides both tuition reimbursement (they'll pay for your advanced degree!) and student loan repayment assistance!
Review from Engineering Dept
Benefits. Flex time, PTO, Retirement, Legal Plans, Pet Insurance. Healthcare is good but used to be better.
Review from Engineering Dept
Flex-time, PTO, and retirement matching are all great.
Review from Engineering Dept
retirement benefits and the overall compensation package
Review from Engineering Dept
Bigger raises, larger salaries for employees with more years in the job.
Review from Engineering Dept
MITRE salaries are 20-25% less than other contractors. There are 0 stock options/bonuses and a "good" raise is 2.5%. A select project receives 20% higher salaries because the (US) location is "challenging." Staff doing the same work in similar or worse locations get no such equity.
Review from Engineering Dept
I don't work here for pay. I took a pay and benefit cut to come here so I don't have to travel and can take off when I want. I took a 10% pay cut to come here.
Review from Engineering Dept
Collaboration is awesome. People are generally kind and straightforward. Lot's of intelligent people.
Review from Engineering Dept
Many A+ players. A lot of smart people to learn from and generally everyone has a friendly mentor-like mentality.
Review from Engineering Dept
collaborative, sharing, caring, knowledgeable, mission focused
Review from Engineering Dept
Can do attitude and ability to provide quality products in relatively short time over many technical disciplines.
Review from Engineering Dept
Top notch and willing to share ideas
Review from Engineering Dept
Many are retired in place and have become complacent. They tell clients what they want to hear, sit at a desk for 8 hours, and claim that their role is to provide "oral deliverables." (I am not joking.)
Review from Engineering Dept
Show up on time, end on time, focus on the meeting rather than on the distractions, come prepared.
Review from Engineering Dept
Outstanding team members at the execution level.
Review from Engineering Dept
Coffee shops are available and used
Review from Engineering Dept
In my experience people at MITRE have generally been wonderfully inclusive and collaborative. A few pockets of bro culture and intelligent yet condescending individuals but most people are great.
Review from Engineering Dept
Everyone is focused on solving hard problems to help our sponsors and change the world. The mission is bigger than any one person and gives a sense of purpose and drive to the work.
Review from Engineering Dept
actually adhere to a work life balance
Review from Engineering Dept
Working some of the most challenging technical issues for Government and military applications; all in the public interest and as a trusted member of government organizations.
Review from Engineering Dept
They could try taking any positive action towards organizing their workforce. It seems like all they know how to do is issue top-down decrees to control employee behavior.
Review from Engineering Dept
Provide more recognition for employees who have worked at the company longer.
Review from Engineering Dept
Clean house -- especially across the NSEC -- overhaul everything from the VPs down and STOP hiring execs because they "look the part." There are dozens of empty suites in the 6/7 and above levels that haven't produced anything but paperwork for decades.
Review from Engineering Dept
They need to figure out what their business is.

more Senior Leadership interaction with sponsors
Review from Engineering Dept
Interview day itself was a positive experience.
Review from Engineering Dept
Numerous interviewers for objectivity. Transparency of process.

Got to meet a variety of people
Review from Engineering Dept
Everyone was personable, intelligent, and kind.
Review from Engineering Dept
I got to speak to several engineers that I would be working with and saw the work environment.
Review from Engineering Dept
Skills-based interviews. Stop calling everyone a systems engineer (or stop hiring people for systems engineering roles who don't have those skills).
Review from Engineering Dept
Being able to work on interesting projects and to an extent, to choose or at least propose those projects.
Review from Engineering Dept
Right now, just having a job because I don't trust management.
Review from Engineering Dept
The abundance of opportunities to learn a variety of new and exciting things. I've never gotten bored for a long period of time.
Review from Engineering Dept
We work together on hard problems that actually make an impact.
Review from Engineering Dept
Interesting and challenging technical problems and feeling like we're making a difference.
Review from Engineering Dept
See previous question. Accountability and willingness to take action are imperative. Stop being driven by the "good ol boy" relationships. MITRE is stuck in 1982 and it shows.
Review from Engineering Dept
It's been wrong since 1958. We get hired by the government because the government contracting rules are so difficult to deal with, if you have an FFRDC, then just issue a task order and you can skip it. Lower quality but bodies none the less.
Review from Engineering Dept
The focus on integrity and truth.
Review from Engineering Dept
Focus on unbiased integrity and honesty with our government sponsors seems to be slowly eroding with the shift toward exploring more for-profit activities. We have a stellar reputation for being trusted advisors. Don't lose it.
