They are family-oriented people and understand when you have something come up. They are understanding and have no need to micro-manage if you are meeting all of your goals. They also make an effort to get to know you personally.
They usually try to stay out the way and very personable.
I work at union pacific
The leadership team cautiously chooses its actions.
They want the company to succeed
Value the workforce much better
Honesty, integrity and transparency. Basically, leadership.
Leadership team needs to be more transparent, share why decisions are being made including the impact to the company and to employees. They also need to get back to focusing on UP being number 1 and others trying to emulate us instead of us chasing them.
I receive stock, a bonus and usually a cost of living increase every year.
Salary and bonus are basically acceptable for my level.
The bonus levels are good.
There is no way I should be 100% liable for my position but only compensated 90% and if you average the first year properly it may be closer to 80%. And the reason they cap new hires isn't even a thing any more because 90% of the conductors that benefitted are retired..... Where's the 10% going?
There is a huge compensation jump from the Sr. Director level to the General Director level. The increase in compensation from level to level needs to be more consistent and not big jumps at certain breakpoints. Also, UP needs to take into account a person's career longevity for vacation.
Coworkers are good people and feel same way about company
We utilize the technology around us as well as an open-door policy.

People other than supervisor and executives.
Feels like we are on the brink of taking our PSR efforts to the next level.
They all want to succeed
The top needs to give to the bottom and be more open to compromise to reach the goal of profits cause every wants to make money.
Treat people like human. They have no gray area. I had planned my marriage date before my hire, and mentioned it to management before I accepted the job and they lied to me and said it would be fine, but when the time came around for my marriage I got written up and threatening to lose my job.
There needs to be less change. The constant change and chasing the latest strategy is impacting morale and productivity. Employees are extremely disengaged and many are looking for new jobs. UP needs to get back to focusing on the employees being the greatest asset.
They include the normal questions as well as diversity and inclusion questions.
I had sufficient time in each interview to really get a feel for the culture of the company.
Fast. All coordination done via email and texting.
Get rid of online only applications and allow people to walk in and inquire about jobs. And let them meet face to face with people
Compensation and work/life balance that differs based on need.
Big paydays or early outs.
Interacting with my team makes me most happy.
Finishing a project for someone.
Company seems tk be run by day traders. Nobody seems to look at the long game
A total lack of Honesty, integrity and transparency with customers, employees, regulators and communities.
New leadership that are not happy with being followers, but leadership focused on what makes UP great: the employees. Leadership also needs to listen to those that have the day-to-day knowledge instead of making decisions in a vacuum.
