How rewarding is your job at YMCA?
For me? Very, but I have unique position that allows me to have a lot of interaction with the members where I actually get to know them and have conversation.
How do you feel about going to work at YMCA everyday?
Again, for me.....I actually love to come to work because I stay out of the politics. I concentrate on the members and have a simple mission. "A smile going in, and a smile going out!" If I accomplish that, I've had a great day.
How can I improve my chances of being hired at YMCA?
Have a GOOD attitude. Just be aware that you are not going to be paid well for the work that you do. Your attitude is what will make your job easier as you deal with our members......and our management.
How secure do you feel at your job at YMCA?
In my job, somewhat. I am well liked by the members and I do put a lot of effort into my position. I do it for pride and the smiles that I bring. But I have seen a LOT of turnover during my tenure so no one is really secure.
What are the team outings like at YMCA?
There aren't any. We used to have a Christmas Party, but they did away with it last year.
How's the vacation policy at YMCA?
That is a good question. People request it, but it isn't always granted. For most employees, you don't get any paid time.
What do people at YMCA think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
The new CEO seems to be a quality guy and is working hard to make the YMCA a better place. He is a people person: very approachable and is willing to talk with you. He working hard to get funding so we can continue providing quality programming for our members, particularly those who we subsidize memberships for. He needs to improve on his follow up. Wages are very poor and there has been more than one person who has asked for a raise, only then to receive pennies on the hour. Some employees go years without anything other than what minimum wage increases get them.
