What's the company culture like at Gap ?

Friendly but stressed. A lot is expected from employees, and wages are not great.
Gap HQ Shared Services is hands down the worst culture in my 20+ career in IT. Not to blame the individual contributors - the inbalance of FTE to Contractor means that many people who are doing the work are doing as little as possible for as much as possible as sloppily as possible. But this is not the rank and file's problem. This problem as do all culture problems, starts at the top. The CTO is clueless as are his hires. They are running the longest re-org in the history of IT and are failing. The idea was to create a devops culture, unfortunately understanding nothing about the environment and nothing about the product stack and likely nothing about engineering, they failed. The next one was to create durable teams, they don't have the skills they need to do this either, so the next edict was to bleed talent and offshore to Gap Tech India.. well, you can guess how that is going: poorly. Which leaves the remaining few with the work of many and it is a thankless task.

If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Gap ?
I would train each employes.
Well,First thing I would I would hire a maneger that knows how to treat and speak to their employees profesionally with respect.Secondly, We need some organization in the store.This would make a better environment for the Gap.
I would have sections geared to older shoppers who like the Gap look but are not in their 20's anymore AND hire some older workers as well

It’s pretty good.Just give them advance notice of vacations.
Vacation hours are based on the number of hours and years worked
4 weeks vacation and sick leave combined, then they take one week back for the week of rest, so not great.

They are awesome and hard working people.

this seems opaque to me, it appears the less you contribute the more likely you are to be promoted

I have worked for the company 14 years, and this is the first time that I have not received a raise.

Challenged every day to make gap card goals, bright goals, and sales goals
only with volume, technically they are very slow

I wish they would i form everyone
that it was going to turn into a sweatshop for tech workers

The offices at Gap have been loaded with fruit flies ever since they started composting and quit collecting employee garbage. the other day there were worms on someone's desk. So the layout isn't terrible but it is a dirty environment

Not enough to pay for your whole move. I believe mine was 7k from NYC.
