Very secure
Very secure
I felt very secure but nothing is ever secure in a company like that.
How's the leadership on the Operations team at Nordstrom?
Most of them are nice.
There was no leader.
The leadership team as a whole is manipulative, unethical and unprofessional. Operations is no different.

Every dept is different but if you dont make enough sales you really don't see a check
IF you’re good, the Pay is good. If you’re not good at follow through and details, it will be hard to grow your business.
What's the Sales team like at Nordstrom?

How does Nordstrom make decisions around promotions?
Most of the promotions I've seen come from undeserving people that the store manager or dm is tired of dealing with. If you are rebellious or problematic you'll get promoted. It makes no sense. Certain rules only apply to certain people
In building services, people who likes my boss is only promoted
Based on qualifications, strengths and if the candidate is a good fit by the hiring manager, both Store managers and current your manager
What's the company culture like at Nordstrom?
The company seems to confused where it is going and like many larger companies do not have competent managers to move the company forward.
Be the fashion expert!
It's not what it use to be. It's trying too hard to be too young. It should do a better job of serving the 45+ crowd as these are the people with disposable income.
What part of Nordstrom's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
The fashion departments are , of course, doing well and growing along with the At Home department. Women’s Active is much slower.
Obviously online is doing great but In store isn't. Each store has web fulfill teams and online gets the credit even though they are taking product from in store. So customers that want to shop in store end up having to order because web fulfill took their size.
Online and the Rack are growing fastest. The full line stores are having the most difficult time.
What does a typical day look like?
There is no typical day...this is retail. Anything can happen on any given day.
Customer returns usually one of the busiest departments in the store. Many of those returns are fraud or customer has used merchandise for long periods of time.
Fill out book Walk stockroom Realize nothing from the day before got done Write out stock assignment sheet from pretty much yesterday because everyone is lazy and takes 30 minutes to sticker one run of shoes. Attend store rally that contains loud annoying music in an attempt to pump us up. Then it's followed by some meaningless group activity that is not fun or motivating. Conduct a selling walk where no one cares no matter how enthused you are. Begin floorwatching and listen to salespeople complain after only being open for 10 minutes. Delegate tasks in the stockroom and run an up list. People say they're working in the back but aren't. Then I begin doing what everyone else should have been doing. Then I go to lunch. Then try to sell for an hour and only do $99. Floor watch more. Type an email no one reads. And go home.
What interview questions does Nordstrom ask?
I have been with the company for years so I have no clue what they ask now.
Describe a time you went above and beyond for someone?
Typical interview questions but 2 of the most common will be your schedule availability which is very important to be open and how you handle a very fast pace work environment
How easy (or hard) is it to sell the product? length of sales cycle?
Easy as long as web fulfill isn't taking all of our stock
Easy to sell the product...we really only have 3 big sales a year.
Depends on the product you are selling

We used to be able to and honestly it was much easier to stay on task.

How’s the interview process? Tough? Long?
Not really, maybe it should be.
Not tough just normal customer service related questions and a selling role play "I'm going on a cruise and I need a few outfits" or something along those lines
long but not too tough
Do you feel like you’re able to make important decisions?
Yes but if it's too creative or rebellious they shut you down
