Take individual situations and circumstances into consideration, focus more on intrinsic motivation factors, motivate by earning rewards not fear of punishment, make less promises if they are not sure they can keep them.
The productivity increases year after year, more and more responsibilities are taken on and more and more experience is gained, but salaries don't increase proportionately. Raises are rather rare and low. There are not a lot of interesting benefits, just the most common ones.
