How do I do well in an interview at Informatica?
You interview at Talend instead
What's the Engineering team like at Salesforce?
Very nice, agile team where every peer helping each other.
What's the vibe like in the Marketing dept at Salesforce? How many hours are you working?
Depends on the team within marketing. Some teams do 9-5, 9-6 and when there's a new launch teams stay later.
How's the leadership on the Engineering team at Salesforce?
Drives delivery above quality or sustainability.
What's the Design team like at Salesforce?
Fragmented with little cross pollination.
How's the leadership on the Design team at Salesforce?
Disjointed and too busy dealing with their own things to worry about the actual people working.
What's the vibe like in the Design dept at Salesforce? How many hours are you working?
Design is pretty slow, and there is an uphill battle with some teams to get Design heard. Design leadership is disjointed, and rarely listens to the people actually doing the work. People are great, but there could be more comradery.
What part of Informatica's business is growing fastest? What part is having difficulties?
The Cloud business across all categories is growing spectacularly well. As a result, the on-premise license business is fading, but that is by design as we pivot to the Cloud.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at Informatica?
I would invest more in employee communications. The Company has stepped up its game in this area in the last year or so, but it has a long way to go. We don't celebrate our wins often enough or loudly enough, and there are fewer opportunities to meet with colleagues around the world than there used to be.
What do people at Informatica think about the CEO? What do they do well and what can they improve?
Our CEO is extremely smart. As they say in Boston, "wicked smart." He is very unassuming, and he has an infectious, upbeat personality. He succeeded a man who was an icon in Silicon Valley, so he had some very large shoes to fill. In the two years since he stepped into the role, I believe Anil Chakravarthy has proven that he is a visionary, flexible and charismatic leader.
What's the company culture like at Informatica?
The culture at Informatica is exceptionally collegial and, at the same time, professional. "C" level executives are very approachable and congregate with our teams all the time. I have colleagues in India, the Netherlands, England, and Australia who I can call upon to help out with a project or brainstorm ideas. Because we are growing rapidly, there are more systems and processes being put in place to help manage the business, and - for some - this added bureaucracy is a turn-off. Compared to other companies this size I know if, however, the level of bureaucracy is less than or at worst the same as you would find elsewhere. The only negative is this is a company that is very frugal. If you can do it yourself or bootstrap it, so much the better. Sometimes the situation calls for spending, and making the case for it can be difficult. Lastly, there are so many smart people here, they keep you on your "A" game. And the conversations you overhear in the canteen are a hoot!
What needs to change to make the company culture better at Salesforce?
Live by what they teach or claim to value.
Does your office environment help with your creativity?
Sometimes. The office is distracting and usually have back-to-back meetings all day. I'm way more productive when I work remotely.
Do people talk about their political views openly? Or do u gotta keep that secret?
People are pretty open and non-judgmental about political views as long as you don't make extreme comments one way or the other.
do you agree with the overall marketing strategy there?
Almost. Need to do a better job presenting the company as one Salesforce vs. separate clouds & stand-alone acquisitions.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better at Salesforce?
Often it seems like we all work at separate companies, politics get in the way of collaboration
What's going wrong and how can it be improved at Salesforce?
Morale is very low
