The company totes that doctors run the company, but not true. Administrators have no idea what is going on beneath them, and do not even consider the advice or concerns of individual departments. They make broad rules, with no compassion for their employees or patients. Horrible benefits as well

What are the team outings like at UnitedHealth Group?
There are none for Telecommuters. Majority of our units are Telecommuters and UHC does not go out of their way to incorporate anything for Telecommuters. The random outings at our local office (not the Corporate Office as they are treated 'special', which is not right or fair) are nothing geared to 'team outings'. In the end, UHC is not successful with 'team outings' whether telecommuter or in-house. Much improvements needed since UHC touts our Culture, Relationships, Partnerships, Communication, Work/Life Balance but the Culture is not followed.
How does Optum measure success and growth in the IT department?
Success is measured by delivering products that work for our customers.
How helpful was your IT team when you were first hired at Optum?
Teams function well for the most part, but are constantly under the "termination" pressure. Don't expect work relationships.

How are the benefits at Optum for employees in IT?
Benefits are good, depending on your level. Grade 31 and above have an executive compensation plan with added benefits. IT pay scales, especially for in-demand services like security and networking, lag other companies especially in the Twin Cities. Health benefits are good for individuals, poor for families.

In your opinion, what are the most common interview questions that UnitedHealth Group asks?
Open ended questions - which are great. However, it appears those that get hired into internal positions is mainly because they know someone not because of their skills. Too many positions you say to yourself "How did this individual get into this role?"
How does UnitedHealth Group make decisions around promotions?
You have to know someone to get anywhere. It didn't used to be that way.
How flexible is your work schedule at UnitedHealth Group?
In this new unit, not flexible at all. My prior unit was very flexible with our work schedule.
What unique perks and benefits does UnitedHealth Group provide?
None that are 'unique' to other Organizations. They lead us to believe they are unique but if you do your research they're not unique at all in comparison to same like, large, Fortune companies.
What's the internship program like at UnitedHealth Group?
So far my experience with UHG has been a positive one. There are multiple training videos that help you become familiar with the organization and their philosophy on customer service and a great experience for the members who are insured through UHG.

Positive. What we do makes a difference in people’s lives, whether directly or indirectly.

Verbal and written feedback is provided by manager to employee, skip levels are conducted to maintain an open forum to help leaders improve.

Most of the time I find my work challenging and rewarding. There may be lulls at various times of the year.
