Working at APS has truly been a breath of fresh air. Coming from a competitor, it quickly became apparent that this is an organization that trusts it's team members to do propel the company forward. No micromanaging, no politics. And because of that, we move quickly and intentionally.
As a member of the Tax Team, we are able to assist our clients one on one. Our clients appreciate the direct contact with the team members that are taking care of their business. It is great to work with a team that puts the client's need at the top - it makes a difference!

What are the differences between maternity and paternity leave at APS Payroll?
APS provides employer-paid short term disability that may be used as maternity leave. The policy pays for a percentage of the employee's weekly salary during a 6 week period. I'm not sure if the policy extends to paternity leave.
I don't think there are any as far as policy. I feel like in general there are differences in expectations of absence, but not necessarily specifically (or at all?) at APS.
FMLA - if it isn't a part of that, I don't think we have it.
What does the ideal candidate in the Customer Support department look like at APS Payroll?
Naturally friendly and helpful, have good written & verbal communication skills, patient, able to learn complex payroll information and setup, able to multi-focus (i.e. you rarely get to start and finish something without interruption), able to work and focus in an open office environment.
We have a variety of people, so you can't narrow it to 'ideal'
How are the healthcare options at APS Payroll?
Basic UHC - no real fancy frills with benefits. No ancillary plans offered, no HSA or FSA.

How's the vacation policy at APS Payroll?
It's adequate, average. By the time you make it to 5 years, you get 4 weeks of PTO per year. With the stress level of the job and the low number of company holidays, it might be nice to have more, and to earn more on a more frequent schedule.

How common is it to switch departments or teams at APS Payroll?
Perhaps more common than at other places. As long as you have the skills & knowledge, or the ability to learn those, they can be very open to department or position changes.

What should I wear for an interview at APS Payroll?
While our dress code is casual, it is always a good idea to present yourself in a professional manner. For men, I would say a tie is optional, but a nice button up shirt and dress pants, possibly with a jacket if you're so inclined. For ladies, dress pants & blouse, or a dress would be fine. No need to be fancy, just professional.
Business Casual - Don't be surprised if you see the interviewer in jeans.

With changes in position or addition of duties (sometimes). Otherwise, not regularly.
Raises? In the time I have been here (over 2 years), I have not received a merit increase

How can I get hired at APS Payroll as a recent grad?
It helps if you know someone to get you an interview, but in the interview, you have to sale yourself. Utilize not only your education, but what you have been doing during school - volunteer activities, waiting tables - whatever it is make sure you were the best at it! Show your innovative ideas and your willingness to change as well as your ability to work well with a team.
What is APS Payroll's internship program like?
Not sure --- but we have at least 3 interns every summer from Accounting to Development to Sales to HR

He is around and involved, but he is not as engaging as he used to be. The company seems to be growing and as it grows, he seems further away.
If you could make changes, how would you improve the culture at APS Payroll?
Inclusion of all. More updates on where are future is going and where we were just a few months, years ago. We have a lack of transparency when it comes to sharing with all departments our goals for the upcoming month and years.

Challenges each day with clients - big and small. No two days are the same, so it keeps it from getting repetitive.

There is generally no feedback. There are no performance reviews. There are no year to year objectives for you individually. There are no merit increases.
