First Merchants – I just feel over the last 5 years that FMB has changed in the way that if you are in a banking center you are a SALESMAN and it's not about truly helping the clients, only about hitting goals and making upper management look good. I don't feel I am paid fairly at all for the amount of work I do. | Comparably

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

In my current position, I have now seen the role directly below mine receive two pay raises before my position has been considered for one. I also don't feel that FMB is really looking at the competitive wages other places offer and a lot of employees are considering leaving/looking for other jobs.

What makes you most happy at work?

Knowing that I am truly helping our clients and being there for them every step of their financial journey. I love that people come into my banking center and ask for me by name because they know I genuinely care about them and helping with whatever it is they need and to succeed.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

It currently seems like the company is more concerned with bringing in new people than taking care of employees already here and have been with the FMB for years. There has been communication in the region from new employees that they were hired at a higher wage than seasoned bankers make right now.

What are some of the best things about your team?

I work with a great group of individuals who are good bankers, but I just think they are to the point of being so unmotivated that they can't see the point in putting forth the extra effort anymore. Especially since the new incentive plan was rolled out and bonuses have been cut for nearly everyone.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

I think the wages that FMB employees are not paid what other local competitors are paying right now. I know several bankers that work at another institution, they have the same title as me, less of a work load/responsibility in their role and are paid significantly more. I do not mean a dollar or 2.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Half of my coworkers do not seem happy to be at work and that brings down the entire teams morale. (I know we can't force anyone to be happy). However, call in's or leaving early/coming in late is so excessive that the people who do show up are drained from carrying all of the extra weight.
