Our team has been together for many years. We do a good job, get along decently well and are relatively free from the excessive management levels that generate tons of unnecessary work for other teams.
Other companies employing engineers in same positions pay far more than GE, with greater benefits/work conditions. Pay freezes and paltry raises, while increasing management layers is insulting. How can you justify hiring expensive executives when you cannot even pay your engineers properly?
Less chat, more action, fewer meetings, more people doing work/less reporting status. We cannot manage ourselves out of problems - get proper personnel, fewer management layers. Engineers doe their job, management do you jobs! One look at mgmt-heavy org chart can tell you how bloated GE has become.
How many surveys do you need? Questions are asked, responses given and company doesn't seem to like the answer and asks again. Stop constant reorgs, dump 50% of mgmt, stop forming new groups, hire more engineers, keep people in roles to increase expertise, value technical skills and increase pay.
Permissive time and flexibility to work from home. If it wasn't for these 2 items, I would have left GE years ago. Mess with this and lose almost everyone important to the company! GE has lost it's former allure/prestige and without these benefits, it is sure trip to company collapse.
