How employees describe working at Starbucks

Good, but could be more engaging.

Review from Engineering Dept

Overall good because of my coworkers

Review from Sales Dept

7 years and the company has had many ups and downs. High expectations for low hourly wages. Easy to promote within if you are motivated to do so. Semi-hard labor (physically and mentally taxing at times; always standing/moving/talking; messy). Transfers available all over the U.S.

Review from Sales Dept

I love my job and the people that I work with. I look up to my manager. I just wish I could move up in the company at some point

Review from Operations Dept

The questions were not too difficult.

  • a lot of diversity.

  • Same as rest of Seattle - prodominately caucasion

  • It is hit and miss. I have worked with people from vastly different social economic statuses, races, religions, genders and sexualities. I live in an area that is predominantly white, but from what I have experienced there isn't a lot of discrimination coming from corporate.

Asked to all employees at Starbucks

  • Depends on the location and availability of spots. Usually pretty easy if you show initiative and drive to your SM.

  • Typically when you start as a barista at starbucks, you have to work hard to memorize drinks and everything like that. Once you are efficient at making all the drinks and you are strong on every other position you can ask to be promoted to a shift supervisor. The time it takes to be strong in every position will vary from person to person, but if you work hard enough at doing so, you can get there in a year and a half or less.
