Q&A With Oracle Employees

Asked to all employees at Oracle

  • If you like a global environment and believe in the long term goals, this is a good company for you.

  • Good pay, and also can work on fun stuff depending on the org. Again, it is a huge company so this varies by who you ask.

  • No longer any reason. Originally had hoped that Oracle was a place to advance and grow. NOT TRUE!!! Terrible pay. No increases in 7 years!!

  • HR is there to protect and defend the company, this is true for almost any company though.

  • Poorly

  • HR at Oracle is literally invisible and really hard to find who one would even talk to. Everything at Oracle is self service so getting hold of a real person vs. an email address for questions Ian virtually impossible. If you send an email to the HR contact you may find you get some kind of standard form letter which is generally useless.

Asked to all employees at Oracle

  • It was quite a bit easier interviewing at Oracle than other places I have worked. I was friends with the hiring manager and believe that had something to do with getting an offer.

  • Not hard, but I was a rehire.

  • Similar to most tier 1 tech companies

  • Very high level leadership on the one hand side only and then some micromanaging from middle management on the other hand.

  • Below average.

  • Mktg is a positive exeption at Oracle, they are great.

Asked to the Engineering Department at Oracle

  • There are hundreds of teams and products, most are all disconnected, so it depends. My team is really very experienced, full of engineers that have been around for 15-20 years or more. Work is very pragmatic and purpose driven, we are self-managed as there are very few managers. Being a senior group it is expected we know what needs to be done, and we are left to it. For the most part, I like this.

  • Siloed. Inefficient.

  • Well balanced

Asked to the Sales Department at Oracle

  • No amount of onboarding and training can prepare you for the meat grinder that a sales position becomes. Front-line management try very hard to intercept what is a systemic political dog-eat-dog company culture.

  • It's a great place for mediocre people to coast for a few years while they build up cred from having a big software company on their resume. The good people are leaving in droves.

  • Fear and pressure

Asked to all employees at Oracle

  • Many weeks . Process could be slow with no communication

  • It can take a long time to hear back after an interview. Oracle insists that the offers be approved by every level of management all the way to the board of directors. Each step takes time. Some people wait days, others wait months. It is good to keep in touch with the hiring manager during this time if you are interested in coming to Oracle. It is likely they are excited to have you join the team but are forced to wait on the approval process.

  • No real company culture as the leadership does not lead by example. Very hard for a culture to be created. Very results driven and all is ROI focused. Money is basically the culture...

  • Make money is number one for both culture and values.

Asked to the Engineering Department at Oracle

  • Not well. I used to have a distinguished engineer that liked my work and took me on as a mentee. He seemed to have sway at keeping me "well fed" and recognized for my work. He has left, and I don't get much of the career growth help now.

  • It is a combination of function delivered and bugs found. We track metrics and compare to peers. The best are rewarded, bullshit gets you no where.
