Columbia Hospitality Claimed Company
OUR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT IS ALIVE AND WELL We'll try just about anything once. This entrepreneurial spirit is how Columbia Hospitality got its start. As a trusted partner of the Port of Seattle, having planned and executed many events for them, they asked Columbia CEO and Founder, John Oppenheimer, if he knew anyone who would be a good operator for the soon-to-be-built Bell Harbor International Conference Center. Having no management experience, naturally, John said, “Yes, US!” When asked why, his response was, “Because we’ve never done it before, but no one knows what your clients want better than us!” We got the job, and we still have that job decades later. read more

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

More support from Directors at corporate.

What needs to change to make the company culture better?

Fair compensation for the amount of work we are doing. Also the amount of support from corporate when taking on a new business/property.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

My leadership team shows immense respect and care for me as another leader of the team. I feel that I am truly cared about on my team.

What are some of the best things about your team?

We all see how hard our transition has been with Columbia and we all feel the same amount of growing pains. Since we all are experiencing burn out, it seems to have strengthened us as a team. We support each other even when we are struggling.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

As a property that has recently been taken on by Columbia, the support from corporate was lacking. I was not given enough direction or assistance but was expected to perform top tier. With still ongoing changes and growing pains I am not paid enough for the amount of hours I am putting in.
