Columbia Hospitality Claimed Company
OUR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT IS ALIVE AND WELL We'll try just about anything once. This entrepreneurial spirit is how Columbia Hospitality got its start. As a trusted partner of the Port of Seattle, having planned and executed many events for them, they asked Columbia CEO and Founder, John Oppenheimer, if he knew anyone who would be a good operator for the soon-to-be-built Bell Harbor International Conference Center. Having no management experience, naturally, John said, “Yes, US!” When asked why, his response was, “Because we’ve never done it before, but no one knows what your clients want better than us!” We got the job, and we still have that job decades later. read more

What makes you most happy at work?

The ability to create change, improvement, and to know I am making a difference with my team

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

We all share the same passion to assist guests and make things better, despite the hardships that everyone has faced

What are some of the best things about your team?

The managers that have stayed in the industry share the same passion for improvement. We join the industry, not for the money, but because we like our jobs.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership team on property is built on respect. Our jobs are difficult but the management team makes things a whole lot easier. We all get along and have a great dynamic

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Coming back from COVID, the management roles are now very redefined. As a front office manager, I wear a lot of hats and do more than a standard FOM would do before COVID in my opinion. However, I am not paid any differently for extra responsibilities. It is the art of simply "paying my dues"
