As a trusted partner of the Port of Seattle, having planned and executed many events for them, they asked Columbia CEO and Founder, John Oppenheimer, if he knew anyone who would be a good operator for the soon-to-be-built Bell Harbor International Conference Center. Having no management experience, naturally, John said, “Yes, US!” When asked why, his response was, “Because we’ve never done it before, but no one knows what your clients want better than us!” We got the job, and we still have that job decades later. read more

What are some of the best things about your team?

We have a smaller team but we all work together respectfully. And that's what's most important.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

My GM has an open door policy and always lends an ear but also challenges us to be better people and employees

What is the best part about your compensation package?

I do not utilize our benefits as I get better and cheaper benefits through a spouse but the amount of PTO we get is great! I like that our owners give everyone on our property the ability to bonus as well.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

For our on property team, they really care about our property being sucessful but also every team member. For our columbia partners (Marketing, sales, P&C,etc) They really do know what they are doing and have make our jobs on the property level easier!
