Our site manager is very approachable and friendly and interested in all of the employees on site. My boss has a lot of technical knowledge and will support their employees in whatever they need.

Bonnie is clearly invested in improving the lives of the employees in NA and she is working with NALT to improve benefits. I also appreciate the female representation in NALT. This shows the company truly values diverse leaders.

Need to streamline and reduce all of the initiatives. it is too many and we are not effective. Provide better resources, e.g. media pack (ppt slides) with a consistent message about the extra money given for mobility classification reasons. We should all say the exact same story.

I appreciate that PTO increases every few years. This keeps me motivated to stay with the company. I also appreciate that the bonus structure was changed to be based on the results from the full company - which makes is more fair when certain markets have up / down years.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I am not making what is considered industry standard for an engineer compared to our competitors.

Compensation/raises have not kept up with the cost of living. Others in the same position are making more than me with less experience and similar reviews. A raise.

The market rate for my job function in my city is higher at every other company than at Evonik. Our pay has also not been adjusted adequately for inflation, so we are effectively making less than last year. I would like to see appropriate adjustments for inflation and more competitive salaries.

My team is very willing to support and teach each other. There is not a hierarchy feeling and coworkers will go out of their way to help even when it is not convenient.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
My coworkers are specialized and work remotely because the office is located in an area that does not have enough specialists and the company does not pay enough to get people to move to that unattractive location.

Some coworkers are unhelpful and form cliques with other coworkers, creating an environment where some feel excluded. These cliques make it difficult to be a team, when there are smaller groups within the whole.

There needs to be better alignment on which tasks are priorities sitewide. What is important to some is not a priority to others, which causes slow progress and often people working against each other for resources, etc.

The whole site is very accessible. I don't feel there is anyone on the whole site where I couldn't walk into their office if I had a question or something I wanted to talk to them about.

What needs to change to make the company culture better?
The work locations are in unattractive areas, pay is not competitive, and support functions (IT, HR, Procurement) are not responsive. This results in high turnover that results in a constant level of stress. Make pay competitive and perks to make people feel appreciated.

It's not just about the hours you work in a day, it's how often you can take PTO without feeling guilty because you have no backup person to support you while you take PTO. And when you come back from PTO you have twice as much to do. There used to be 6 engineers that do what I now do.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
The lack of transparency and feedback. Lack of prioritization from upper management until the last minute with the expectation to execute flawlessly. Expectation to go above and beyond but Evonik, the company, does not go above and beyond for employees.

There is a lack of long term vision and realistic path to get there. There are a lot of visions and plans, but they never feel attainable or rooted in reality, so you feel set up to fail, and that is demoralizing. The hardest strain in difficult times is always placed on the same people.
