My store is poorly managed. I am a sandwich artist and get paid the minimum but often I train new employees and do managerial tasks and do not get paid for it. I'm constantly called in on days off, and the owners do not hire reliable help. I would enjoy working here much more of this could change.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The regular customers that look forward to seeing me every night I work.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Hiring reliable workers, communicating better with the team, and paying the correct ammount per hour for those who deserve it.
What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
If we had more workers per shift and better managerial staff, I believe the store would run much better than it is now and we'd get much more customers than we currently are. Workers need to be paid fairly for work.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I want to be paid for the extra work that I do. I'm a sandwich artist and get paid minimum, but because I have experience here, I'm expected to train new employees and not the manager/assistant manager. I feel very taken advantage of.
What would you improve about your company's interview process?
It's hard to get ahold of the owners of our store. And when we do, they don't answer texts for weeks. I wish the interviews were more candid about pay (I didn't figure out how much I was making an hour 3 months into my employment here.)
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
Being reliable and showing up on time. I believe 3 days of training for new employees is too short for them to know what they're doing by themselves (closing shifts) . We are constantly alone during shifts because there aren't enough people working here and often get overwhelmed.
