It's okay. I have learned a lot of valuable lessons here and am grateful for that piece. I could definitely contribute more, but it would require a cultural shift that I don't see happening. The staff experience and contribution tends to be a bit marginalized, although there has been some change.
What are some of the best things about your team?
We work really well together. I look forward to collaborating with them on projects. They are smart, competent people who like to do good work.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Everyone is fully committed to student success. I see all of these bright, motivated people actively working to improve the curriculum, support students, and ultimately make healthcare better.
What makes you most happy at work?
I love the flexibility of working from home. That is such a valuable benefit. My job became infinitely more valuable once I could do that. I also love connecting with colleagues on creative project. That is so energizing.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
The executive leadership seems to care deeply about the institution and has made some good decisions to promote its health and security. It is apparent that they are very invested in the overall success of the health science center.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I do twice the work of my male colleague and still make less money than he does. We have a good working relationship and he's an excellent contributor, but it is frustrating. There aren't any opportunities to develop the skills I would need to promote.
