Toxic environment. Leadership barely understands the departments that report to them. Significant back-stabbing and talking behind backs. It's a difficult environment. It historically was not like this. This is the result of changes over the past 3-4 years and new leadership hires.

This question is specific to compensation, but its because the compensation is insufficient to balance the toxic environment. Executive leaders are condescending and rude, they rely on their upper and middle management to get the work done and then constantly criticize and demean people.

Treating people with respect. If there is an issue, go to the source rather than believing the gossip. Do your homework executives. Don't just cater to the popular employees -- many of whom feed off of the intelligence of those you are not paying attention to.
