how’s your relationship with the engineering team? collaborative?
The engineering team doesn't realize that fulfillment center associates are human. They do not take intangibles into consideration when creating processes. Then these processes can change daily if not sooner.
The relationship is strained thanks to the massive discrepancy between pay and expectations. Our Engineering group usually works at what can best be called a tepid pace and they get openly annoyed whenever anyone asks for a quicker response to a serious problem such as a shut down line.

How many women are in your team? is it diverse enough?
3 women out of 10 engineers. Not very diverse in terms of race/color.

My group is made up of 3 engineering teams. There are about 3 women on the team and a few others in product management. We have to try harder to bring in more diversity
Does Amazon have a Veteran outreach policy?
Yes
At my site they have a special program that hired four to five veterans a month, I am a trainer for them and they have all done very well.
What are company outings like at Amazon?
Great
Few outings. The ones during work hours are better attended.
What Operations department questions did Amazon ask during your job interview?
None. I got lucky and slid in a mass hiring of a new facility in peak season.

Amazing group!
Very good group of guys who get it done but we all need more training!
How's the leadership on the IT team at Amazon?
Gets better every day!
Hard to reach them to ask questions and usually no response.
How are the working conditions in AWS Engineering department?
Depends mostly on which service you are in. They vary quite a lot in maturity of operations and development activities. In mine, it's relatively laid-back. On-call is a pain, but the rotation is spread around enough that it's not too frequent. And there are tons of smart people to work with, and learn from!

Is Jeff Bezos really as demanding a leader as people say? How would you best describe him?
I think very few people out of thousands of employees actually interact with Bezos. Most of us are about 10 layers deep.
The best I can tell and from stories I hear the answer is YES.

Only if the managers agree, both from the team you are on and the other one that should welcome you in their team
What kind of people does Amazon like to hire?
Good workers
can seniors handle the physical aspects of amazon jobs?
Not at all. They are way too strict and metrics-focused, and do not make exceptions for extenuating circumstances, older age, conditions that are manageable, etc.
What is the hardest interview question Amazon asks?
You have to sign a 2 year bond with amazon, which later turned out to be a prank

I applied online. I have been with Amazon for almost 3 years> I do not know what questions they ask. Again it would probably depend on whether you work at a physical location, or at home.

Is the work on Alexa actually interesting?
Yes, super interesting. Trying to understand an entirely new interaction model and build a service that is helpful, but not pushy, informative but not spooky, friendly but not creepy, and secure... hard challenges!

Excellent. Top of the market.

Every org is different. Overall you're expected to be independent, curious, and speak for the voice of the customer.
