Q&A With AT&T Employees
AT&T employees answer questions about what life is like behind the scenes at their company, including queries about culture, leadership, professional development, and compensation.
How employees describe working at AT&T
I appreciate the opportunities offered, but many benefits like 401K and vacation feel reduced. I work here mainly to meet basic needs. Without incentives for long-term commitment, morale suffers. If required onsite, please ensure adequate parking and workspace for productivity.

How difficult is it to maintain a social life while in your job at AT&T?
What is social life. We are worked to the bone and don't have any social life because we are so wore out from the drama.
Not very. Everyone pretty much has to reserve drinking time to survive.
Hardest part of working AT&T you work from sun up to sun down. Even if you have kids you go to work before your kids wake up and you work past the time your kids go to sleep
How's the work life balance at AT&T?
Work a lot of long work hours
For field technicians, the balance is terrible. We work irregular shifts that change constantly and we have no set end time for our shift.
It varies but mostly like a 9 to 5 job.
What are some of the best things about your team at AT&T?
Very hard work, passionate and friendly
We have all been friends at least 10 years.
Cohesive and accomodating
What do employees at AT&T think about their benefits?
The employees are very appreciative.
We like our benefits just have no job security.
Getting worse. Medical cost are up with new added spousal penalties. Family medical has skyrocketed with large up front copays. Hundreds per family member before insurance pays a dime. Dental is pretty decent. Vacation time is decent also.

Very segregated, with management on one side and employees on the other.

That the CEO might actually get that job.
AT&T traps you with the money and benefits but AT&T comes before anything else in your life
What's the Operations team like at AT&T?
The team is awesome
Mostly slugs working harder to avoid work than do it.
There are a lot of good smart folks working in low-level roles at aT&T. The company should seek them iut and help them advance.
how important is it to have graduated from a top school? Is it necessary for new hires?
It depends on what position you're after, but a lot of at&t is staffed by "old guard" IBEW/CWA linemen who don't care about your schooling at all and still expect you to either be professionally experienced or else go through some sort of on-the-job apprenticeship. If you're applying for an upper management position they'll care a bit more, but honestly as long as you can demonstrate your ability to do the work your should be fine.
No
It is not necessary. Work experience always trumps college in all fields at the company. Several management positions are filled by people who are non degreed.
What are you most excited about working at AT&T?
Speaking as a data scientist, we have a ton of interesting data to work with.
Pay check every two weeks
Since AT&T (T) is so large you can change jobs or careers and still stay under the same company (401k, etc). I would recommend moving every few years so you get a broad view of the business. Look for a mentor. T provides lots of training so you can learn other areas of the business.
How often do you have a formal review with your manager? what is that process like?
Review process has moved to once annually, and it feels more like a formality and seldom ties in with the feedback I get from my manager the rest of the year.
Twice a year
In my department we have annual reviews. For me it has always been a positive experience.
What benefits does AT&T provide?
Besides the standard Health/Dental/Vision insurance and 401k, AT&T provides employees with discounts on home TV/internet and cell phone service. There are various other perks such as matching donations to charities and referral bonuses as well.
401k 28 days PTO Life Insurance Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Stock options at Directors and above Flex work hours
Medical, bonuses, dental, vision
What is the best part about your compensation package at AT&T?
Many of the employees in my channel specifically, lack a degree/higher education. The compensation we receive is extremely generous.
We are compensated based on our contributions to the success of the company's ability to increase shareholder value
My family is covered at reasonable rates
What's the internship program like at AT&T?
Extremely educational and hands on.
None in the sales side. Which is a good thing.
No experience with it. Not sure if there is one.
How would you describe your overall experience interviewing at AT&T?
Great if they ever hire again
Too long ago to comment.
The interview was great, the job policies are so great.
How challenged are you at AT&T?
I feel like a robot.
Very challenged with restrictions on how calls can and should be handled; no thinking is involved, only a predetermined script.
I’m always challenged, but never drowning. It hasn’t killed me yet.
What's the interview process like at AT&T?
Tough. People with accent may find it hard to get into the company.
Depends on who you are interviewing with. Keep it professional and positive

Sometimes depending on what changes were being made.
Not at all!
NO, not at all
What is the daily attire at AT&T?
Casual
Depends on the group, but in general we've become much more laid back in dress attire. You generally see much less suits and ties than 5 years ago. Jeans are also much more acceptable across multiple business units.
Casual
How innovative is AT&T?
They generally sort of keep up with the market.
AT&T has always been and will continue to be the most innovative mobile company on the market.
Not at all
How do I do well in an interview at AT&T?
Make sure to appear hard working, have superior work ethic, and confident.
Well just be a yes sir no sir person you will get the job. If they ever hire again
Just be yourself.
What's the pay like for Operations roles at AT&T?
About $43 per hour
Fine
Operations pay is great at the top, average at the bottom. The real issue is that when you hire into an entry-level position, you don’t move up. I’ve been a model employee for 12 years and I’m still in the same entry-level role.
What's the vibe like in the Operations dept at AT&T? How many hours are you working?
About 50 hours per week
The vibe is nervous and uneasy. Folks are working too much and too hard, becUse we are ranked against one another and the lowest ranked are first cut in the ever-impending layoffs.
Vibe is poor
