Great social environment, good benefits, poor pay. Upper management is deaf to employee complaints and is out of touch with the struggles of its lower-middle-class employees.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

There is a lot of emphasis on internal hospitality.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Pay all employees livable wages.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Salary does not allow room for health insurance for people with disabilities.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Work is work. I could never be excited about selling my labor for profits that I'll never see.

What are some of the best things about your team?

People in my department are collaborative and open to the opinions of others. Criticism is offered firmly but constructively, and author feedback is taken seriously.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Most of my colleagues and I rely on a second source of income to make ends meet, either from a spouse/partner or from an additional part-time job. Elsevier makes it clear that it doesn't value its employees as people, especially since our questions about pay keep getting deflected or ignored.
