I have worked at Elsevier for a long time, I've experienced many highs, and some lows: working in The Lancet is the happiest I've felt since starting working here. I have complete faith and trust in manager and The Lancet SMT. Kumsal also has had a massively pos impact on our place of work.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The people - however the recruitment processes are run, or the managers are trained to select staff, they pick good people, who work hard.
What are some of the best things about your team?
There is a real sense of community and protectiveness. Everyone looks out for each other and is sensitive to signals that others may need help. Everyone respects one another, they value each others strengths.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
Staff are asked for feedback, concerns are openly addressed and followed-up on. There appears to be an openness to acknowledge areas to improve upon, and action is then taken. Kumsal has created an incredible organisation, very different to her predecessor.
What makes you most happy at work?
I am proud of my job, and the work within my team. Especially during the pandemic, when individuals had their own personal challenges, papers were published, including vaccine trials and I was very proud of where I worked and what that represented.
What is the best part about your compensation package?
The flexibility - I can work from home, I can work in the office, I can be the school gates to pick-up my children and not have to book annual leave. True flexibility is a reality within the group I work in, and I assume the wider Elsevier BU. I feel very lucky.
